Ever tried fixing crystallised honey with a quick dip in warm water, only to end up with a crunchy jar and total frustration?

You are definitely not alone. While the warm-water advice is technically right, it leaves out a catch: it takes consistent, low heat over a long period of time.

When we need to decrystallise our jars, we put them into our warming cabinet set to 36°C and leave them in there overnight. That steady, gentle warmth is what slowly melts the crystals without damaging the raw honey.

So when people try to do it at home in a bowl of warm water for just a few minutes, it usually doesn't work. To melt it at home, you have to keep the jar in warm water for a few hours and keep topping it up so the water stays warm.

It turns out it is a bit trickier than most people think

Unfortunately, the queen ended up *above* the queen excluder in the top boxes. That meant any drones she laid couldn’t pass back through the excluder to leave the hive.

There was plenty of food up there, but once the drones died, they were stuck—so we had a not-so-lovely build-up above the excluder.

And yes… that still doesn’t excuse Gareth launching them at his long-suffering camerawoman.

What the bees are doing right now, in case you were wondering

This is the bit where people assume the hive is just quietly making honey.

In reality, it is constant work. Nurse bees cleaning and feeding, foragers coming back loaded, guards doing their best bouncer impression, and Gareth trying to look calm while 50,000 insects judge his technique. It may only be September but they are scaling back for winter and laying winter bees right now.

Ours is raw and local, bottled by postcode around Manchester, and it tastes like it. Different areas, different flowers, different flavour.
