CAKE SPECIAL - Blackcurrant Ripple

A cloud of lemony buttermilk sponge so fluffy it might actually float the boat, secretly stuffed with sneaky little pockets of tart, juicy blackcurrants that pop like gossip on a quiet canal.

Each slice comes drowning in great big dollops of vanilla-infused cream-cheese frosting (the sort that leaves evidence on your nose) and a glossy, eye-wateringly tangy blackcurrant purée ripple that looks posh but tastes like pure cheek.

While we’ve been away, we’ve been thinking a lot about what we actually want you to feel when you come to Walton Perk Café Boat.

Yes, we want to make great coffee.
Yes, we want to serve great food.
Yes, we want it to be affordable.
Yes, we want to give back.

But if we’re honest… that was never really the whole point.

We notice the people who visit on their own.
We notice the parents who just need twenty minutes of peace.
We notice the friends who haven’t seen each other for months.
We notice the regulars whose order we already know.
We notice when someone isn’t quite themselves.

Sometimes all someone needs is a smile, someone remembering their name, or somewhere they feel comfortable just sitting for half an hour.

That’s the café we’re striving for Walton Perk to be.

We’re back open tomorrow, and whether you’re popping in for breakfast, meeting a friend, grabbing a drink to go, or simply fancy escaping the house for a little while… there will always be a warm welcome waiting for you.

We can’t promise that your tomorrow will be perfect.

But we can promise you’ll be genuinely welcomed by every single one of the Walton Perk team.

Last night, our good friends Sue and Jill wore the Walton Perk hat and supported the homeless in Manchester on behalf of Walton Perk, in support of the summer BBQ.

We’re delighted to share that your generosity enabled them to distribute over 200 cakes and drinks, purchased with the tips from the collection box over the last few months.

As you know, every penny goes to support Don’t Walk Past, the fantastic outreach team in Manchester helping the homeless.

Sue and Jill, you’re amazing. Thanks again for supporting in our absence ♥️

They’re running a quick community survey to support a funding application for a brand-new climbing and sliding structure in the park.

It will replace the old wooden one that’s reaching the end of its life.

It only takes about 5 minutes and every response strengthens the case.

It’s our last trading day before we take time out with the family for a well-deserved holiday, re-opening on Friday 21st August.
