ā€˜The Bordersā€™ Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been launched - the first single malt whisky to be produced in the Borders in 200 years šŸ„ƒ

Bill attended its first release party at The Borders Distillery in Hawick last night. Limited to 10,000 bottles, this single malt is smooth, elegant and fruit forward with notes of caramel, vanilla and honey šŸÆ

Mainstreet, in its former guise as Walter Ballantyne & Son, used to blend whisky in the now homeware department. A selection of blends, notably The Hunting Squire was produced from 1895 through to 1978, so there is a tradition of whisky production on our doorstep.

This long awaited first release 8 year old single malt is a triumph of skill, patience and hard work of the local Hawick people in the distillery, with local barley from the farmers in the Borders and backed by an internationally forward thinking enthusiast šŸŒŸ

Yesterday was publication day for ā€˜Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotelā€™ by the wonderful Lucy Foley

It has been 50 years since Agatha Christieā€™s last Miss Marple novel, so we were looking forward to immersing ourselves back into her world.

Rosamund has been reading it on the train to London and itā€™s a real page turner! No spoilers when you get back please šŸ”ļø

It was an absolute delight to have the fabulous Maz Evans with us last Thursday at Belhaven Hill School and Jedburgh Grammar Campus to talk about her latest book, ā€˜The Last Bardā€™.

Not only was it a real giggle but Maz was very inspiring, speaking to the children about the importance of story telling and what are the main components of a good tale. The children were enthralled by Maz, coming up with some great questions at the end of both events.

What a pleasure it was to host Ben Macintyre in Kelso last night where he talked about his fascinating new book, Redwood.

The audience were all raptured by this story of a Soviet agent and his MI6 handler. If you think you know how this goes, think againā€¦yes, there was talk of coercion, violence, espionage and alcohol but at the heart of it was the tale of how far one man was willing to go to hide what he deemed to be so very shameful - his impotence.

The Guardian just published a glowing review of this ā€˜page-turning masterpieceā€™ saying ā€˜by all means give Redwood to your father for Christmas, but make sure you read it yourself first: itā€™s superb.ā€™

šŸ“ What a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon we had with the amazing CQgardens by Caroline Quentin talking about her beautiful book, Drawn to Nature. I donā€™t think weā€™ve ever had so many spontaneous rounds of applause for an author mid-event - whether for her gardening tips, acting tales, life lessons or exciting and emotional anticipation of Freshers Week as she begins a degree in art history šŸ˜Š

And thank you to her publisher Quarto Publishing (UK) for sending us such an inspirational force of nature and sponsoring brilliant local artist to paint the window display šŸŽØ

Finally, a shout out to our lovely neighbours, for supplying Caroline with the secret ingredient to her book tour - a mini watercolour set and sketch pad šŸƒ

Rosamund had a very spoiling night in London courtesy of Bloomsbury Publishing and Fig Tree

First, to Soho House for a gorgeous Indian Summer launch party celebrating the combined brilliance of Ann Patchett Parnassus Books and Meg Mason. Authors Patrick Ryan and Esther Freud were also in attendance, and, if you look very carefully, Stanley Tucci made a cameo appearance photobombing Ann and Megā€™s brilliant impromptu reply to their editor, Alexis Kirschbaumā€™s speech.

Later at dinner with the lovely people at Fig Tree, who treated us to eleven authors talking about their new books coming in 2027. Very hard to know where to start the reading, but Rosanna Pikeā€™s Jane Anger hit the spot on the train journey back to Scotland šŸ˜Š and Vicky is now lobbying to wrestle the proof of Ferdia Lennonā€™s new book from Rosamundā€™s handsā€¦.

So many fascinating books to look forward to from Fig Treeā€¦big thanks to Fig Tree for a delicious dinner and wonderful evening.

On Wednesday the amazing Alice Melvin came and painted one of our windows in celebration of her new book ā€˜Mouse goes to the Mountainsā€™, and itā€™s stunning šŸŒŸ

Her new book is beautifully written and illustrated and encourages children to explore in nature. We all stopped and had a read when it came in, itā€™s a real gem of a book.

Alice very kindly signed some so pop in and pick up a copy before they fly off the shelfšŸƒ
