The ‘Hospitality’ industry is a ‘People’ industry.
Tabure St Albans, which opened its doors 5 years ago this month, is the sum of all the people who have worked and dined in it.
As we worked on the fit out, as we worked to train the opening team on what we wanted Tabure to offer, and once open, as we learnt from our customers of their expectations, what they liked and disliked we stressed and strained to get things just right, to settle into our own little niche.
We learnt from our staff what their strengths & weaknesses were and built systems around both these elements to create the environment and the offering we have today. It took years, and we have all sacrificed so much in the process. And we continue to, as there is no other choice if you want to survive in hospitality.
The staff who have come and gone over the years have always impacted on the offering we have been able to deliver, with their individual characters and their personal efforts always shining through for better or for worse.
A picture from two years ago shows me a happy moment in our kitchen. It also reminds me of those that have come and gone and those that still remain part of the team.
Tio who returned to his homeland Spain, Ozzy who left only to return a year or so later to join our journey once more, literally working now preparing takeaways for home delivery on this sunny Sunday afternoon.
Shwan who moved on at the start of this year since helping us to open Berkhamsted three years ago still has his name etched on our menu through his artichoke recipe. Amoa who is enjoying a well earned day off today.
Eddy who is driving around Berkhamsted delivering food to our regulars looking for that bit of comfort and sense of normality we can offer through our food.
So when I think about where we are right now, in April 2020 and working through such extraordinary times, I look at the picture below and remind myself that change is a fact of life.
Adapting to this change is vital. Ensuring that we remain ‘relevant’ is no more or less important now than every other day since we opened our doors.
Life after all must go on, and so too will Tabure.
For now we will continue delivering our much loved food to your homes on Thursday & Friday from 5pm and Saturday & Sunday from 1pm.
And tomorrow we will just have to wait and see...... but neither do we stop working on tomorrow either.
The ‘Hospitality’ industry is a ‘People’ industry. And the Tabure team will continue to create, to try to excite and give enjoyment to our customers.
It’s been so heartwarming to have been able to still offer many familiar faces a treat around St Albans to help celebrate a birthday or anniversary with a delivery of our food. To see some treating others through a voucher or a secret order as a surprise. That’s what hospitality is all about.
And I ask that you all play a part in our story too, by ordering a home delivery through our website www.tabure.co.uk
