On a warm September day, with the sun shining, what could be more appealing than an Italian breakfast at Just so Italian. Just love this place! Coffee and an almond cornetto. Perfetto!

Today, Julia and I were at a family run, independent Garden Centre nestled on the Warwickshire – Northamptonshire border where the Canalside Restaurant offers homemade meals, pies and cakes. The afternoon tea at £20 for two was pleasant enough but not outstanding either in quality or range of delicacies.. A choice of ham or cheese coleslaw sandwiches. A jam scone each, a butterfly cake, ginger cake followed by a jelly and chocolate cup cake from the top tier. Sitting outside was a little noisy from motorway traffic. The nicest feature were the teapots. We gave this afternoon tea 3/5.

DID YOU KNOW?
Afternoon tea was introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840. The Duchess would become hungry around four o’clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household was served fashionably late at eight o’clock, thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner. The Duchess asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter (some time earlier, the Earl of Sandwich had the idea of putting a filling between two slices of bread) and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her. Fancy that!

One of the best places in historic Kenilworth, for a full English breakfast is Pomeroys. Parts of this iconic building, known as The Vaults formed the towns railway station in 1844, and has since been an assembly room and a cinema. Serving an extensive menu, from breakfast to suppers, this contemporary eating house also offers live music on Friday evenings. A delicious full English breakfast is £9. Service and quality excellent. 5/5

You can’t travel to Blackpool without mentioning the top quality of northern pies and pastries. Could not resist a morning coffee and toasted tea cake sitting outside in the sun. Great service, quality and excellent coffee. Bought three pies for consumption later!
