Setting the Record Straight
We have recently seen some completely untrue rumors circulating online claiming that La Pondicherry is closing down, our lease has ended, or that we are selling the business. We want to be absolutely clear: we are not closing, we still have 10 years remaining on our lease, and we have zero desire to sell. The exact same family proudly remains at the helm!
The Truth Behind the Scenes
For the past decade, our family has poured our hearts into La Pondicherry, dedicating ourselves entirely to our business and the wonderful Rotherham Stag community. However, behind the scenes, we have faced immense and ongoing challenges regarding the very building we call home.
Over the last ten years, we have made numerous requests to purchase the premises from our landlady and her agents, BTG Eddisons. Every single time, we have been outright refused. We feel deeply let down by this decade-long cycle of rejection. It has become abundantly clear that they have no desire to sell simply because they generate a substantial rental income from our hard work and success as a restaurant.
Compounding this frustration is the lack of support. They have consistently refused to carry out necessary building renovations or assist with basic upkeep. As a result, our family has had to invest a significant amount of our own money into maintaining the buildingβshouldering financial liabilities that rightfully belonged to the landlord.
We care passionately about how this property looks and how it stands as a landmark in Rotherham Stag. Where they see a reliable revenue stream, we see a building with untapped potential. If given the chance to own the property, we know we could restore it to its full glory and bring a totally new, elevated experience to the local community we are so devoted to.
Despite these relentless hurdles and years of being held back, our dedication to Stag and our vision for La Pondicherry remains as unwavering as ever.
Exciting Changes Ahead
Instead of slowing down, we are actively gearing up for the future! In the coming months, you will see major upgrades as we revamp the restaurant with fresh ideas:
β’ Complete Renovations: A massive update to our shopfront and interior to make the space much more comfortable for everyone.
β’ Expanding Our Spaces: Finishing our indoor wine bar and completing the original vision for our outdoor beer garden.
β’ Revamped Menus: An exciting new food menu featuring Indian fusion alongside continental dishes like Italian pastas and fresh stir-fries.
β’ Upgraded Drinks: A brand-new, dedicated wine and gin menu.
β’ Live Entertainment: We are bringing in live acts and music very soon, including live magicians!
β’ Calling all local talent: If you are interested in performing live music or other acts, you are more than welcome to get in contact with us!
Giving Back to Our Community
We want to use our space to give back to the area that has given us so much. We will be looking at hosting events to raise money for the local hospice. We are also looking for other local charities to supportβif your charity needs a venue to host an event or if you'd like to collaborate, please reach out so we can work alongside each other to help you reach your goals!
