A little update from The Inkpot
After a lot of thought, and honestly, with a very heavy heart, we’ve made the difficult decision to bring The Inkpot to a close in its current form.
This little shop has been such a huge part of our lives. We’ve poured an enormous amount of time, money, energy and love into creating something that we genuinely believed our little town could enjoy, somewhere a bit different, with good coffee, vintage clothing, homeware, tattoos and a space that felt warm and welcoming.
Unfortunately, the reality of running a small independent business is that good intentions, kind words and well wishes alone don’t keep the doors open. As lovely as it is to hear that people love what we’ve created and want to see us succeed, a business ultimately needs people to spend their money there in order to survive.
We’ve reached a point where the level of support we’ve needed simply hasn’t been there consistently enough to make continuing possible.
And that’s a really difficult thing to admit.
We didn’t make this decision because we stopped believing in The Inkpot, or because we didn’t love what we’d created. Quite the opposite. We’ve had to accept that we cannot continue putting everything we have into a business that isn’t providing us with the income we need, particularly with our little boy arriving in December and a period ahead where I won’t be able to work in the same way.
So, although this isn’t the ending we wanted, it’s the decision we have been forced to make.
There is, however, some really exciting news amongst all of this…
Tattooing isn’t going anywhere.
I’ll be continuing with tattooing, and another Tattoo Studio will be moving into our premises, meaning we’ll still be here and I’ll still be doing what I love, just under a different name and with a slightly different direction for the space.
So this isn’t goodbye to the people we’ve met, the clients we’ve tattooed or the creative community we’ve built around us. It’s simply the end of The Inkpot chapter.
I want to say a genuine thank you to everyone who has supported us. To everyone who came in for a coffee, bought something, booked a tattoo, recommended us, shared our posts or brought friends through the door, you have meant more to us than you probably realise.
And to the other small and independent businesses out there: please remember that when you tell someone you love what they’re doing, actually choosing to spend your money with them is what keeps them here. Every coffee, every purchase, every booking really does make a difference.
We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created, even if we’ve had to accept that it isn’t sustainable for us to continue it.
