Funky Ferments

Funky Ferments Fermented food is easy, fun, nutritious and delicious! It's really yummy, very good for you, and best of all it is easy to make it yourself.

I am passionate about fermented food, from traditional sauerkraut to spicy kimchi and tangy fermented salsa, from yogurt to kombucha, milk kefir to sourdough, and lots more. I want to share these skills to help people learn how to make this for themselves. I run low-cost workshops and share and sell cultures to get you started. Have a look at the services section for info on booking a workshop, and keep an eye on the page for upcoming scheduled workshop dates and occasional recipe shares!

Getting a lot of new views because someone else had the same GENIUS idea we did for a name. It appears that there is a new Funky Ferments trading at a farmers market somewhere in the US. Which is awesome! but if that's what you're looking for, you have come to the wrong place I'm afraid! This Funky Ferments was a food preservation education project set up in Wales UK which has gone dormant. If you *know* the FUnky Ferments currently selling at the farmers market please send a PM to this page! thanks and enjoy delicious and nutritious fermented foods wherever you can :)

Clear-out - does anyone want any jars? I have small ones for jam and lots of big ones (1.7 litres) which are great for ferments

My kefir grains suffered an accident while travelling... is there anyone in the area who has had some from me in the past who still has live culture they could share back?

Hi everyone! Things have been quiet on the page, although not in the kitchen. If anyone is still reading, please note that I'll be teaching a fermentation workshop on September 9 at Transition Cafe in Fishguard, booking essential, there are still spaces!

Hello funky fermenters and would-be funky fermenters! A few people have asked me recently about running another workshop. I will be happy to run one for a minimum of five people. please use the pinned post at the top of the page to coordinate, or of course if you can find at least 4 friends, then get in touch and let's organise a date! I can do most Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Now is a good time of year to look at ways to preserve things from the garden before winter sets in. See you soon!

If anyone needs milk kefir grains, or kombucha scoby, please let me know, I have plenty of scoby and MKG every few days, you can collect them from me or I can bring them to school.

Did someone who was at the workshop yesterday leave their handouts? I seem to have a spare, slightly stained, set. If this was you and you would like me to email you a copy, please send a PM with your email address.

A lot of people have expressed interest in workshops, who haven't been able to make it so far. I will run workshops for groups of 5 or more, so if you can get enough people together we can do one! This post is to help people who don't know each other in real life to chat and see if we can get the numbers for a new date. Please post here if you're looking for a few more folks so we can book a date :)

Next batch of 'garden garbage kimchi-ish' - my 5 year old helped me clear two beds' worth of bolted mustard greens, pak choi, mitzuna, and radish leaf and strip the leaves off the woody stalks. These got salted and mixed with the last few leeks, last few carrots, and a spice paste of the end the garlic, last year's dried chillies (jalapeƱo) and some totally not-home-grown ginger. I use this approach whenever I've got garden leftovers, bolted greens, carrot tops, etc. It's different every time but always yummy!
