🐾 Just to clarify… we’re NOT closing! 🐾

Following our recent post, we’ve noticed a few people have understandably read it as though Paws for Thought is closing soon — so we just wanted to clear that up. ❤️

Paws for Thought is very much open and it’s business as usual! ☕🐱

The post was simply about exploring what the future might look like. After nearly 8 years of pouring our hearts into the café, I’ve been thinking about the possibility of a change in lifestyle at some point, and whether there might be someone out there who would love Paws for Thought as much as we do and potentially take it on in the future.

There is no imminent closure and no definite decision has been made. We’re simply putting some feelers out there and seeing if the right person, or the right opportunity, comes along.

For now, you’ll still find us here doing what we love — looking after our cats, welcoming you through the doors and enjoying everything that makes Paws for Thought so special. 🐾❤️

If you’ve ever dreamed of running a cat café, or know someone who might be interested in taking on something really special in the future, then we’d love to hear from you.

Thank you, as always, for all your love and support. It means more than you know. ❤️

The Future of Paws for Thought… 🐾

Paws for Thought has been such a huge part of my life since opening in 2018. I’ve poured an enormous amount of love, time and energy into creating what it is today, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.

After a lot of thought and an opportunity for a personal lifestyle change, I’m considering the prospect of selling our much-loved café.

Before we advertise more widely, we wanted to come to the people who know and love the café most…..you!

If you’ve ever visited Paws for Thought over the years and thought, “I’d love to do something like this one day,” or know anyone who has, we’d love to hear from you.

The cats will be coming with me and continuing their next chapter as part of our family, but we’d love to see the café, community and brand continue for many years to come.

We’re not looking to hand over just a business. We’d be handing over a well-established operation with a loyal customer base, recognised brand and all the systems in place for someone to hit the ground running.

To make this transition as smooth and enjoyable as possible, I’d personally be happy to dedicate my time to helping and supporting the new owner as they settle into the business.

This isn’t an announcement that Paws for Thought is closing and nothing is set in stone. It’s simply us looking into our future and reaching out to our wonderful followers first to see if the right person might already be a part of our community.

If this sounds like something you might genuinely be interested in, please send me a private message and we can have a confidential chat.

Thank you!! ❤️

⏰ Just 2 Days Left to Enter! 🐾

There’s still time to enter our raffle and help support our resident cats! ❤️

Since launching the raffle, our veterinary costs have continued to grow. Kiki has now had her ultrasound scan and has been diagnosed with inflammatory gut disease, meaning she’ll now need ongoing medication to help keep her happy and healthy.

Our gorgeous Mercury has also recently undergone 11 tooth extractions, adding another £300 to our vet bills. Alongside this, two of our other resident cats still need dental treatment, and all 8 of our resident cats have recently had their routine health checks, flea treatments and worming.

🎟️ £5 = 1 raffle entry

🏆 You could win:
🐾 A 1-Year Cat Club Membership
☕ Or, if you’re already a Cat Club member, Afternoon Tea for Two
✨ PLUS an exclusive VIP visit to spend extra time with our resident cats!

Simply visit our website and make a £5 donation. Every £5 donation counts as one entry, and every penny goes directly towards providing the care our cats need.

📅 The raffle closes in just 2 days, so if you’ve been thinking about entering, now’s the time!

Thank you to everyone who has already entered and supported us. Your kindness means everything to our little cat family. Good luck! ❤️🐈

Alongside this, Kiki and two of our other resident cats need dental treatment, and all 8 of our resident cats have recently had their routine health checks, flea treatments and worming.

✨ As a little thank you, we’ve decided to add an extra prize! ✨

The lucky winner will now receive:

🐾 We’ve decided to extend our raffle for one more week! 🐾

Firstly, thank you so much to everyone who has already entered and supported our cats. ❤️

We’ve had a few people say they hadn’t had chance to enter yet, so we’ve decided to keep the raffle open for one more week, giving everyone the opportunity to get involved while helping us with our recent veterinary costs.

Unfortunately, since launching the raffle we’ve now received Kiki’s blood test results, and the next step is for her to undergo an ultrasound scan, which will cost around £400. Alongside this, Kiki has also needed dental treatment, two of our other resident cats require dental extractions, and we’ve recently had all 8 of our resident cats in for their routine health checks, flea treatments and worming.

🎟️ £5 = 1 raffle entry

🏆 Prize
🐾 A 1-Year Cat Club Membership
or
☕ If you’re already a Cat Club member, Afternoon Tea for Two.

To enter, simply visit our website and make a £5 donation. Every £5 donation counts as one entry, so multiple donations mean multiple chances to win.

📅 The raffle will now close on Sunday 9th August

If you’ve been thinking about entering, now is the perfect time. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us continue giving our cats the care they deserve.

Thank you for always being there for our little cat family. Your kindness and support mean the world to us. ❤️🐈

❤️ Behind every small business is a person who took a leap of faith.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about small businesses, and I wanted to share something from the heart.

Behind a small, independent business is usually someone who was passionate enough about an idea to take a huge leap of faith and turn that passion into something real.

Someone who decided they didn’t just want to work for a wage. They wanted to create something that made them happy, but hopefully brought happiness to other people too.

For us, that has always been what Paws for Thought is about. 🐾

It’s about creating somewhere personal. Somewhere that feels different. Somewhere that brings people together and gives something back to the community.

But honestly, it is becoming incredibly difficult for small businesses to keep doing what they love.

We all hear about rising costs, and I know it can almost sound like something businesses constantly complain about. But the reality is that our costs genuinely keep going up year after year.

VAT, wages, rent, energy, ingredients, insurance, suppliers… everything costs more.

And whilst we absolutely understand that staff need and deserve better wages, there comes a point where small businesses simply cannot afford to have the same level of staffing that they once did. We have to make difficult decisions about where we can cut costs.

Sometimes that means buying the less expensive jam instead of the lovely one we used to buy because we wanted our afternoon teas to be the best they could possibly be.

Sometimes it means choosing cheaper mugs rather than the beautiful ones we would have loved to give our customers.

Sometimes it means cutting back on the little things that nobody might notice, but that we notice, because we care.

And that’s the thing I really want people to remember.

Small businesses care.

When you buy a coffee and cake from an independent café, you aren’t just buying a coffee and cake.

You’re helping someone keep their dream alive.

You’re helping pay someone’s wages.

You’re helping keep an independent business on your high street.

You’re supporting someone who has poured their time, money, energy, stress, heart and probably far too many sleepless nights into creating something they believe in.

And when you walk through our doors, you aren’t just another number on a spreadsheet.

We notice you. We appreciate you. We remember you. And we genuinely want you to have a lovely experience.

So next time you’re heading into town and fancy a coffee and cake, I’d really encourage you to look around at the independent cafés, shops and businesses that are still there.

Ask yourself who is behind them.

Who took the risk?

Who is trying to create something special?

Who is trying to keep their little piece of the high street alive?

Because if we don’t support our independent businesses, eventually there simply won’t be any left.

And I don’t think we want our high streets to become a row of identical big-name chains, with nobody behind the counter who actually owns, loves and cares about the place they’re working in.

We want our high streets to have character.

We want passionate people.

We want businesses that are part of the community.

We want somewhere where the person behind the counter knows your name and is genuinely happy to see you.

So, if you’re able to, please support your local independent businesses.

Buy the coffee. Have the cake. Browse the little shop. Book the afternoon tea. Share their post. Tell a friend.

It might feel like a small thing to you, but to someone who took a leap of faith and built their business from the ground up, it means the absolute world. ❤️

And from one small business owner to anyone who has ever supported us…

thank you. Truly. 🐾❤️

🐾 HELP SUPPORT SMALL HOSPITALITY BUSINESSES 🐾

Running a small hospitality business has never been easy, but rising costs, wages, energy bills, food prices and taxes are putting more and more pressure on independent businesses.

We’re asking the Government to reduce VAT for hospitality to 10% to give small businesses a much-needed helping hand.

For businesses like ours, every percentage point makes a difference. A reduction in VAT could help small cafés, restaurants, pubs and other hospitality businesses survive, protect jobs, keep prices more manageable and continue serving their local communities.

💛 If you care about your local independent businesses, please take a moment to sign the petition and help us make our voices heard.

👇 Please sign and share:

It only takes a minute, but your signature could help make a real difference to small businesses across the UK. 🇬🇧

Please share this post too — the more people who support it, the stronger our message to Parliament.

Thank you for supporting small businesses like ours. 🐱❤️

🐾 Win a Year’s Cat Club Membership & Help Our Cats! 🐾

The health and happiness of our cats will always come first, but we’ve recently had some unexpected veterinary costs, so we’re holding a raffle to help towards their care.

💛 Kiki has recently undergone blood tests and we’re currently waiting for the results. She has also needed dental treatment, including tooth extractions.

🦷 In addition, two of our other resident cats also need dental extractions, and we’ve recently had all 8 of our resident cats in for their routine health checks, flea treatments and worming.

To help us cover these costs, we’re giving you the chance to win:

🏆 A 1-Year Cat Club Membership
or, if you’re already a Cat Club member, an Afternoon Tea for Two instead!

🎟️ How to enter
Simply visit our website and make a £5 donation. Every £5 donated = 1 raffle entry, so if you’d like to increase your chances, you’re welcome to make multiple £5 donations.

📅 Entries close on 2nd August

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us continue to provide the love, care and veterinary treatment our cats deserve.

Thank you so much for supporting our little cat family. We truly couldn’t do it without you. ❤️🐈
