This is great news. After a tricky negotiation with the landlords, Dee Caf has struck an agreement to remain in place. At a crucial meeting, Tina brought along her MP, Olivia Bailey, who helped secure a good deal.
Last year, Reading Buses eliminated the Ruby Route 10 that runs through Kennet Island, leaving residents with a significantly poorer bus service. However, along with other residents, we contacted our Whitley Ward Councillors (Micky Leng, Rachel Eden, Alice Mpofu-Coles) and our MP, Yuan Yang. Together, we successfully lobbied Reading Buses to introduce an improved bus service for Kennet Island.
Why do we bring this up? We often hear that politics is pointless or not relevant. Or "what have they ever done for us anyway?" This is not true. Local and national politicians work for us. If you have an issue, reach out to them for help.
They cannot do everything, but they can do some things. Don't just vent on social media - contact them.
UPDATE….
Hey beautiful people, as many of you already know we’ve been going through a lot in our little corner of Dee Park. For the last year or so I’ve been trying to negotiate a contract with our new landlord, it’s been stressful. Original proposals meant that we would’ve had to give the place up because they saw us as a commercial unit. With bills etc going up, it was a tough decision, even took on to try and support Dee Caf.
So a couple weeks ago, came along to our final meeting with our landlord to try and negotiate something we could afford and keep doing good stuff. Olivia was incredible to watch, she took over from me when I was just too tired to fight and we came out with a much better deal, so we’re hoping to stay for at least another 5 years! Just waiting for the contract…. Whoop! Whoop!
It’s been a lot but just want to say thank you to our customers, MP Olivia Bailey for coming to our rescue, Phil and Shu and Breege for your advice, Kai for being a constant support, Miller and the kids for the hugs love and time.
We’re taking a break, closed this Sunday. Going to hang out with friends for a fun ska weekend at Come and join us, celebrate! And it’s all for a good cause too https://specializedproject.com/events/specialized-reading-2/
It’s been a battle but the people have won!
Peace out ✌🏽
