Yellow Teapot Cafe

Yellow Teapot Cafe The Yellow Teapot Café is the resident café at The Rising Sun Arts Centre. At the moment it is jus The Yellow Teapot Cafe might do everything a cafe might do.

In fact it does , you can buy tea, coffee and soft drinks, biscuit, cake and we would serve a beer if pushed. But we are not a cafe we are an event at the Rising Sun Arts Centre and to that end we can provide so much more! It is a moveable feast. It happens every month on the 2nd and last Saturdays between 1 and 3 pm. Like I said, you can find the usual fare but more it is a haven for those who li

ke to look at books and drink tea. We have the beginnings of a little library with picture, poetry and story books for the young at heart. Alongside the aforementioned refreshment we will serve Chinese and Indian teas freely. Also there will be a selection of art materials so there will be opportunity to write and draw as inspired in the gentle creative space. With I hope some background music that will also bring to the fore creative juices. What is there not to like?

Today in Sweden is the day of Saint Lucia, which means a lot of burning candles (including a crown of burning lights), stars, people in white gowns, beautiful singing choirs, and homemade cakes including the special lussekatt which is only eaten at this time of year. As one of our volunteer bakers is Swedish she has been busy baking away, both trying the elusive lussekatt as well as some soft ginger cake which is to then be enjoyed under stars and candles. Whilst we can't get together to eat them this year we hope next year we can. Hope you all have a lovely Lucia 🎄

Today should have been Here Come The Sun, whilst that sadly wont be happening in person this year why not make yourself some cake, go and sit in the garden and listen to the YouTube playlist from HCTS's gone by! Plus if you can why not buy a ticket for the even that never happened to help the centre keep going until they are able to open again.

Today should have been this year's Here Comes The Sun Festival. But global events dictated that was not to be.

If you want to join us in celebrating the history of HCTS, we've updated our playlist on YouTube featuring studio sessions, play-it piano performances and even complete sets from festivals past - https://tinyurl.com/HCTSvids

And if you'd like to support us while we can't put on events, please consider buying a "ticket" for "The Event That Never Happened" - your donations will help us keep going and able to bounce back when things are safe to do so - https://tinyurl.com/RSACdn8

And feel free to share your memories of Here Comes The Sun in the comments!

We miss chatting and discussing creative ideas around a cup of tea and a piece of cake with you so much! And hopefully we'll be able to do this again very soon.
In the meantime, here is the next best thing for a creative tea break. Have you visited the Reading Lockdown Quilt page? It's the perfect art piece to immerse yourself in while enjoying a cuppa!
And if you're feeling creative, The Rising Sun Arts Centre has re-opened submissions so there's still time to add your patch.

This is it! Our Reading Lockdown Quilt is live on on and our website.
A patchwork of individual stories depicting our collective Reading story. Expect to laugh, expect to smile, maybe shed a tear too.

We are so proud of this Lottery and Reading Place of Culture funded project.
But this is not about us, this is about all of you wonderful people of Reading (and beyond). So, let’s keep the conversation going and tell us what you think in the comments.

We've tried out another pie to be added to the cafe menu once we reopen, pineapple pie to be exact. This slightly unusual pie treat should likely work well for the cafe as it taste just as nice cold as it does hot (and work with either cream or icecream)🤤 We can't wait to share it with you! 🍍🥧

Still in lockdown mode so baking is still a big thing. This weekend we made Rhubarb crumble (with cinnamon) for the first time. What do we think, should crumble be added to the menu when we are back? Heated up with some custard or cream?

Slight delay in testing out the sourdough starter but today it finally went in the oven! We need to adjust our settings as it got a bit too crispy on the outside but the end result was some lovely sourdough bread. A couple more goes and we will hopefully have it down to a T in time for the cafe being able to reopen.
