Over the weekend, we celebrated our daughter’s christening and I played the perfect tour guide to showcase our city by taking family (who travelled down from Liverpool) to two classic pubs, one of these classic pubs was The Ship Anson 👏👏
We’ll be sharing soon what other pub we took them to but what I can tell you, this other pub is perfectly located and is a brilliant spot to best showcase our city. Any guesses?
Liverpool wins third place for the most pubs per square mile, Portsmouth comes second place behind London, so seemed fitting to make pubs the focus for their visit to Portsmouth.
Pictured is The Ship Anson’s traditional breakfast for under a tenner, there is a full English breakfast option for those whose tummies have a larger capacity. Blue light discounts also available.
Breakfasts are served here every day of the week until midday, unbelievable value for such a prime spot, great service and a breakfast to match this fine pub oozing with naval history.
Thought to be named after the 18th century HMS Anson, the building was once three side-by-side pubs until one was destroyed during World War II and now is the pub garden, the remaining two were knocked through to create one big pub.
Other brilliant pubs along this stretch are The Lady Hamilton, the Ship & Castle and around the corner down Queen Street is The George, one of Portsmouth’s oldest pubs which even features a well where a girl fell to her death and still haunts the pub to this day.
