Important Announcement
Hi guys,
There’s been a lot of speculation around what is happening with the business so I am posting this to update you all on what’s going on.
Unfortunately due to rising costs it became unmanageable to continue as I was and I have relocated Cookie Queen HQ to a new unit that does not have a shop front.
From when the shop opened we saw a huge rise across the board with bills/stock etc (as an example 40 blocks of butter was £49.99 in April and now sits at £79.99 electricity £130pm to almost £600pm) everything has increased but, rising costs weren’t the only spanner that was thrown into the works, I’m not one for airing my dirty laundry in public but I feel that people have followed my journey and are a part of it, so I’m just going to be as open as I can.
Shortly before the shop opened I found out that my (now ex) husband/partner of 10 years had been having a 2.5yr affair, as you can imagine it was a massive shock and caused a lot of upheaval turning me overnight into a single mum with 2 children (one of which has Cystic Fibrosis that needs a lot of medicine/physio/hospital trips to keep her well) 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses and a shop due to open (that had to be delayed)
It also meant that I had to stop my stalls because in all honesty, I wasn’t able to do it all and I had to focus on getting the shop set up and running whilst dealing with everything at home, this meant taking a huge knock on sales and losing one of my main income streams for the business, the stalls are where it all began.
Thankfully I’ve been able to get into a position where I could do the stalls again but unfortunately it was a little to late in regards to maintaining the shop on the high street.
Before I took on the shop I was looking at units to operate from as I just wanted somewhere to bake from for my stalls/events and online shop but I was lucky enough to be offered an opportunity to move to Cosham, the location especially being down the road from my great grandfathers bakery, along with the cookie counter possibilities swayed my decision to take the route I did, I knew it would be more expensive than a unit but I did not foresee the previously mentioned spanner being thrown in and felt it would be manageable, I was a wife with a husband at home to help with the day to day of family life and then all of a sudden I wasn’t.
I will now be operating from my unit, I will be at Wi******er market every Friday and Saturday starting this week, the online shop will reopen next week for both nationwide and local deliveries, I will be attending all the food festivals I had planned and I’ll be visiting Love Southsea on Sundays when I can, the only difference for you guys will be that there won’t be a cookie counter to pop in and collect from.
It’s definitely not what I was hoping would come of things but some things are out of our control and all we can do is work with what we’ve got and follow that good old British moto keep calm and carry on….I like that one.
I know people will be disappointed about the cookie counter and I am sorry, so am I but I do feel this move will put less pressure on my home life and I hope people will continue to support me, the cookie pies aren’t going anywhere guys I promise!
I saw one comment from a gentleman that struck a nerve
“obviously bitten off more than she could chew”
Boy does he not know just how much I’ve had to chew on this past year, it’s a good job I’ve got a backbone of steel because I’m sure comments like that could destroy some peoples self esteem, not me though, I’m just going to keep on chewing.
LONG LIVE THE COOKIE QUEEN 🍪👸🏻
