Safe Space for Dogs Helps Support Rescue Animals
This month marks a significant milestone for Benvardin Kennels as it celebrates 16 years of caring for rescue dogs and supporting responsible dog ownership across the local community.
Founded in 2010 by Centre Manager Louise Neill, who previously worked for the USPCA, Benvardin Kennels took over the running of the kennels from the USPCA with a vision of giving abandoned and unwanted dogs a second chance. Since then, the team has rescued and rehomed more than 6,000 dogs, helping thousands of animals find loving forever homes.
Louise says the need for rescue spaces has never been greater. "We are seeing a significant rise in the number of dogs being surrendered and, sadly, abandoned. The ongoing cost of living crisis, coupled with the increasing cost of veterinary treatment, is leaving many owners struggling to cope financially. On an average day we receive between 12 and 20 enquiries from people wishing to surrender their dogs, and unfortunately we simply cannot accommodate them all immediately."
With fewer and fewer places where dogs can be safely exercised off the lead, Benvardin Kennels is also offering local dog owners a secure and affordable solution while continuing to support dogs in need of new homes.
The Dog Field at Benvardin Kennels provides a fully enclosed one-acre secure exercise paddock, giving dogs the freedom to run, play and explore in complete safety. Whether your dog simply enjoys off-lead exercise or requires a secure environment due to behavioural or training needs, the field offers peace of mind for owners. It is particularly suitable for dogs that are reactive towards other dogs or people, allowing them to exercise without the worry of unexpected encounters.
Visitors will find fresh drinking water, poo bags and waste bins provided on site, making each visit as convenient as possible. Beyond the exercise paddock, dogs and their owners can also enjoy access to a secure 15-acre woodland, planted in 2019 with more than 30,000 trees representing 15 native species. The woodland provides a peaceful natural setting for longer walks and enrichment, benefiting both canine and human wellbeing.
Sessions cost just £5 per hour and can be booked online, with customers able to choose whether to pay online when booking or pay on arrival. Appointments are available seven days a week, with the first session starting at 8.00 am and the last at 8.00 pm, making it easy to fit a visit into any schedule.
Every booking directly supports the work of Benvardin Kennels. All income generated from The Dog Field goes towards caring for the rescue dogs at the kennels, helping to provide food, shelter, veterinary treatment and daily care while they wait for their forever homes.
As safe off-lead spaces continue to become increasingly difficult to find, The Dog Field at Benvardin Kennels offers local dog owners a valuable community resource, providing a safe, enjoyable environment where dogs can exercise freely while supporting a worthwhile cause. Every visit not only gives dogs the opportunity to exercise in a secure environment but also helps ensure that rescue dogs in need continue to receive the care and attention they deserve.
To book your session, visit www.benvardinkennels.com or call 07518 370478 for further information.
