Sometimes, in the middle of heartbreak, someone reminds you what it was all about.

One of our incredible team members recently shared these words as she begins looking for a new job after the fire. Reading her post brought us to tears.

She wrote about Beach Café being more than just a workplace. She spoke about feeling like family, about the friendships, the laughter, the customers, the silly doodles on the whiteboard, the Polaroid photos, and the sense of purpose that came with every shift.

That’s what Beach Café has always meant to us.

When the fire destroyed our café, we didn’t just lose a building. We lost, for now, the place where so many memories were made. One of the hardest parts has been encouraging our amazing staff to find work elsewhere while we rebuild. They have bills to pay, families to support, and futures to build, and we couldn’t ask them to wait.

To every member of our team, thank you.

Thank you for every smile you shared with our customers, every busy shift you tackled, every laugh behind the scenes, and every ounce of love you poured into making Beach Café such a special place. You were never “just staff.” You are, and always will be, part of our family.

Seeing words like these reminds us that what we built together was so much more than a café. It was a community, and no fire can ever take that away.

We are incredibly proud of every one of you as you begin new chapters, and we hope you know that wherever life takes you, you’ll always have a home in the Beach Café family.

It is a sight that has left the entire local community completely heartbroken. The beloved Porthtowan Beach Café on Beach Road was tragically destroyed by a blaze after going up in flames overnight.

Six fire crews rushed to the scene to tackle the ferocious fire, forcing a full evacuation of the area. Fortunately nobody was harmed alongside the catastrophic physical loss.

Now, owners Jonathan Richardson and Suzanne Rees have shared this truly devastating image showing the gut-wrenching aftermath inside the venue, which first opened its doors in May 2024. The raw photo exposes the sheer scale of the fire's destruction.

Despite their immense personal heartbreak, the owners have been completely overwhelmed by the wave of kindness flowing from the local area. "The support shown to us this evening has been more than touching and we really couldn't be more thankful to the amazing community that is Porthtowan," they shared shortly after the incident.

In a deeply moving update, Jonathan and Suzanne emphasized that the café was always so much more than just a business to them, taking time to thank their staff and neighbors who have also been impacted. While mourning everything that has been lost in the embers, they are firmly holding onto hope and finding the courage to move forward.

Their message to their loyal customers is a powerful testament to local resilience and solidarity. "We want you to know that this is not the end of our story. The spirit of our beach café lives on through the incredible community that surrounds it, and that spirit cannot be destroyed by fire," they wrote.

Out of the ashes, a beautiful, hopeful vision for recovery has already been born, with the team making a defiant promise to the community. "We will rebuild. We will return. And together, we will come back stronger," they stated, looking forward to the day they can welcome everyone back with a coffee, a smile, and those cherished beach views.

This local business needs our community's love and strength now more than ever as they face the long road ahead.

It’s hard to find the words to express how grateful we are for the incredible kindness, love, and support we’ve received following the devastating fire that destroyed our beautiful beach café.

Our café was so much more than a business—it was a place where friendships were made, families gathered, celebrations were shared, and countless memories were created. Seeing it reduced to this has been heartbreaking, but the outpouring of compassion from our community has reminded us that what truly made this place special was never just the building—it was the people.

To everyone who has reached out with messages, phone calls, offers of help, donations, prayers, and words of encouragement, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your generosity has given us strength during one of the most difficult times in our lives and has reminded us that we are not facing this alone.

As many of you have heard, we’ve had a devastating fire at the cafe this evening 😢

I can’t begin to tell you how heartbroken we are 😞 but thankfully and most importantly everyone is fine and safe🙌

The support shown to us this evening has been more than touching and we really couldn’t be more thankful to the amazing community that is Porthtowan 🫶

This has affected not just us but our amazing neighbours also, thankfully the fire was contained to the cafe but it still has an impact on them.

We would like to say a massive thank you to all involved tonight, some amazing members of the public for their fast actions.

To all the responding fire services and police we thank you so much for everything and for being so supportive of us 🫶 you’re all amazing for what you do 🫶

We will rebuild and come back stronger, just please bare with us at this time ❤️
