πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ League Match Report πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ

The Stones team opened their first home fixture of the campaign in what can only be described as absolutely horrendous conditions for June, as steady rain and heavy conditions made scoring a real test for both sides. Despite this, the match was played in excellent spirit throughout, with both teams battling hard to secure a halved match overall.

On the course, there were some excellent performances across the board.
Anthony Lacey and Josh Bell delivered a standout performance, producing a dominant 7&6 victory, controlling their match from the outset and never allowing their opponents into the contest.
Harry Smith and Simon Prior also impressed with a strong and composed display, securing an excellent 4&3 win, closing their match out and showing real consistency under pressure.

Gary Walford and Corey Tamlyn were involved in a tightly contested battle throughout, ultimately earning a well-fought half point reflecting a solid and resilient performance from both pairs.

Phil McGuire and Steve Cobley fought valiantly in a competitive match but ultimately fell just short, losing 3&2, despite pushing their opponents all the way to the closing stages. David Evans and Jack Brooks also battled hard in another close encounter but were narrowly defeated 2&1, in a match that remained in the balance for long stretches.

Overall, it was a gritty and determined home performance in difficult conditions, with plenty of positives to take forward as The Stones continue their league campaign.

Attention now turns to the next fixture as momentum builds within the squad.

πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ League Match Result πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ

The Stones Team produced another superb team performance to secure a brilliant 3&2 victory away to Pennard in an excellent evening of league golf on Thursday.

Played on a fantastic course and in great spirit throughout, the team were extremely grateful for the warm welcome and hospitality shown by Pennard, who proved to be outstanding hosts from start to finish. Special mention must also go to the food provided after the match, which Phil McGuire was particularly complimentary about β€” some would say he may have enjoyed that as much as the 7&5 victory itself.

On the course, there were some excellent performances across the board. Phil McGuire and Lloyd Willis led the way with a convincing 7&5 victory, while Corey Tamlyn and Evan Davies delivered a sensational 9&7 win in a dominant display made even sweeter as it was Evan’s debut. Simon Prior and Josh Bell battled hard to earn a well-deserved half, with Steve and Rhys Cobley also securing a valuable half point after a competitive match throughout.

Geraint Thomas and Jake Furness fought valiantly against a strong Pennard pairing but were narrowly defeated 3&2 after a hard-fought contest.
Congratulations to everyone involved from The Stones on a fantastic away victory and another excellent team effort.

Attention now turns to the next fixture as The Stones look to carry this momentum forward in the league campaign.

The Grove Golf Club is devastated to learn of the passing of 2024 Club Captain William Hanford.

"Will", a member of the Grove for over 20 years, was an active member of the Seniors Section and represented the Club numerous times in fixtures and events.

During his year of captaincy William raised a significant amount of money for his chosen charity - The MS Society, a charity that was very close to his heart.

William will be missed by all members and staff at the Grove. The Club's flags will fly at half mast as a mark of respect to our former Club Captain.

Rest In Peace, Will.
