Did you know sushi was once fast food? 🍣

In early 19th-century Edo — modern-day Tokyo — nigiri sushi became popular as convenient street food, often sold from stalls and eaten quickly by hand.

Fast food… just a little different from today. 😊

Sushi has a much longer story than most people realise. 🍣

Early forms began as a way of preserving fish with salt and rice in rice-growing parts of Southeast Asia. The technique travelled through Asia and developed in Japan over centuries into the sushi we recognise today.

Very different from a Friday-night California roll 😄

Did you know sushi doesn't mean raw fish? 🍣

Sushi is built around seasoned, vinegared rice — which is why sushi can include cooked fish, chicken, vegetables, egg and plenty more.

Raw fish on its own is sashimi.

So yes… chicken katsu sushi is still sushi 😄
