Good evening. It looks like the weather is set fair again for tomorrow and there’s likely to be a lovely sunset. We’ve got our good friend dJ Neil Kemp playing tunes in the front yard. Do you fancy watching the sun go down with a great beer and a groover of a soundtrack?

Good Morning. A massive turn out for the quiz and a nail biting finish that went to a tie break between The C Me's and Oldies and Goldies. The question was the TV programme 'Fireball XL 5' was set in the future, but in which year? Fireball XL 5 was set in the year 2062. The Oldies and Goldies said 2020, the C Me's said 2032 and took the crown for the first time since April, so well done to them. A shout out too to The Tap Room Flat Cappers, Quizzical Quartet and Spectacle Girls, all who made high scores. PLEASE NOTE The quiz is very busy just now and reserved seats are a premium, please be sure to book your seat each week even if you are a regular. There is often a waiting list for tables these days and we don't want anybody to miss out.

Lockett of Ackton

Another grand and very rare photograph from our archive. It features L Lockett of Ackton on his delivery cart in a spotless white apron. We believe Mr Lockett was a grocer who did home delivery. Our research unearthed a reference to a Mrs Ada Locket (sic) who is listed as a shop keeper in Ackton in a business directory of 1927. The address is given as ‘The White House.’

Starting in 1919 when the armistice brought peace after the first war and continuing throughout the 1920’s and 30’s a gathering took place annually in July in George Copley’s field just next to The Bradley Arms. The whole community in Old Featherstone and Ackton were invited for games, sports and a tea at the field and the elderly sat down to tea in the school on Church Lane. The children were given sweets and the elderly received packets of tea and to***co. There was May Pole dancing, and a parade behind the Featherstone Silver Band. People were carried there by the farmers and traders in their carts with horses dressed in their best for the occasion.
The ‘Treat’ as it was then known was the forerunner of today’s gala and the fact that it was held in the paddock next to The Bradley Arms explains why the gala procession traditionally started at The Brad’s.

Good evening. Just a reminder that the beer garden at the back is closed tomorrow afternoon. We still have al fresco drinking in the front yard though.
