🏆 WE DID IT AGAIN! 🏆

For the second year in a row, we are incredibly proud to announce that we have been awarded Best Seafood Restaurant in the South West 2025–2026!

This award means more to us than words can say...

Many of you will have seen our recent post about the challenges we're facing. Hospitality is under enormous pressure, and the impact of VAT and rising costs continues to make it harder than ever for independent restaurants like ours to keep our doors open. It's a difficult time for our industry, but moments like this remind us exactly why we keep fighting

This award belongs to our incredible team

To our talented chefs, George & Joe, thank you. Your creativity, passion, dedication, and the outstanding menus you create every single day are the heart of everything we do. This simply would not be possible without you

To our amazing front-of-house team, thank you for delivering exceptional service, warm smiles, and unforgettable experiences to every guest who walks through our doors. Your hard work never goes unnoticed

To our seafood suppliers, a huge thank you for always delivering fresh & high quality products and for supporting local ingredients. We couldn't have done this without you guys

And finally, to every single one of our customers, thank you for your continued support, loyalty, and belief in us. Every visit, every recommendation, and every kind word helps keep independent hospitality alive

A big thank you to the Prestige Awards for recognising us as Best Seafood Restaurant in the South West for 2 consecutive years. We couldn't be more proud

If you've ever enjoyed dining with us, please take a moment to support the petition. We've worked tirelessly to earn awards like this and to maintain the standards we're so proud of. It feels incredibly unfair that, despite all that hard work, so many fantastic hospitality businesses, including ours, are still fighting just to keep their doors open under the weight of ever-increasing costs and taxation

Here's to another year of passion, perseverance, and serving the very best seafood. ❤️🦞🥂

Recently, everyone has been talking about how VAT is affecting hospitality. We’ve shared the facts and figures before, but today we want to talk about something more personal.

We want to tell you how it is affecting us...

Not just as a business. Not just as restaurant owners. But as individuals who have poured our hearts, time, energy, and lives into keeping our doors open.

Posting something like this takes courage. No business owner wants to admit they are struggling. Yet the reality is that we, like so many hospitality businesses across the country, are facing immense pressure every single day.

The cost of doing business continues to rise, while the government refuses to lower the VAT taxes that are placing so many restaurants, cafés, pubs, and hospitality venues at risk.

We are fighting harder than we ever imagined we would have to. We do it because we love what we do. We do it because we love welcoming you through our doors. We do it because our customers mean everything to us.

But today...today we need your help.
We don't want to be the next ones in line that have to close doors...

Recently we have seen amazing hospitality businesses near us closing their doors, this is happening every day and every day that goes past it's another day that we are grateful that it wasn't us, that it wasn't our turn to give up yet.

Please take a moment to sign the petition calling for a reduction in VAT for the hospitality sector.
Every signature matters.
Every signature counts.
Every signature gives businesses like ours a better chance of surviving and continuing to serve the communities we love.

If you’ve ever enjoyed a meal with us, celebrated a special occasion here, or simply want to support local hospitality, please stand with us.

Sign the petition. Share it with a friend. Ask them to sign it too.

Together, we can help protect the businesses, jobs, and communities that make hospitality so special.

Thank you for your support. It means more than you know.

We are proud of our sustainability policy, helping to protect our oceans for future generations

Serving Sustainability: How The Bottling Plant is Hooked on Ocean Conservation

For the popular seafood restaurant The Bottling Plant located on the Barbican, protecting the environment isn’t just a buzzword, it is the core ingredient of their business model. Recognising that a seafood restaurant’s livelihood is inextricably linked to the health of our seas, the owners have unveiled their ambitious Sustainability Policy, together with a new partnership with the Ocean Conservation Trust.

Here is how they are turning culinary operations into a force for planetary good:

🌟 The 5% Profit Pledge: Funding Marine Protection

At the heart of their initiative is the 5% Profit Pledge. Starting this year, The Bottling Plant is dedicating 5% of its net annual profit directly to local environmental causes.

To ensure the biggest possible impact, they have chosen a single, meaningful focus: The Ocean Conservation Trust. By funnelling a fixed portion of their success back into the water, the restaurant is actively funding the preservation of the very marine ecosystems that supply their menus, ensuring healthy oceans for future generations.

🌟 Hyper-Local Sourcing & Sustainable Catching

You can’t protect the ocean while overexploiting it. The Bottling Plant ensures its entire supply chain respects the regional ecosystem:

🐟 Responsible Fishing: Seafood is sourced via trusted local partners like S&J Fisheries and Rex Down Fisheries, who actively support the Responsible Fishing Scheme, offering full traceability from ocean to plate.

🍖 West Country Pride: From Somerset-roasted coffee to meat from award-winning local butchers, the restaurant prioritises regional suppliers, drastically slashing food miles and supporting the Southwest community.

🌟 A 360-Degree Eco-Friendly Operation

Beyond their financial pledge, the restaurant has implemented 16 rigorous sustainability commitments that turn daily operations into a masterclass in green hospitality:

💦 Halving Food Waste: Through smart online booking data, food waste has been cut in half since 2022. What is left over doesn’t go to a landfill; used oil and food waste are transformed into green energy and biomethane at local anaerobic digestion plants.

⚗ Ditching Plastic & Chemical Waste: Single-use plastics have been virtually eliminated in favour of reusable containers. Furthermore, the kitchen has been entirely bleach-free since 2020 to prevent harmful chemicals from washing back into the water system.

🔋 Energy & Resource Efficiency: Utilising the historic building’s natural thermal mass and LED lighting keeps energy use low. Even the bar plays a part, dehydrating unused citrus fruits and utilizing on-tap mixers to drastically cut down on glass waste.

From Tracey, co-owner of The Bottling Plant

“As a local restaurant, we’re incredibly proud to support the Ocean Conservation Trust. Our coastline shapes who we are, and donating some of our profits is our way of giving back to the oceans that sustain our community. It means a lot to us to help protect and restore our blue planet for future generations.”

From Emma Cowley, Head of Fundraising – The Ocean Conservation Trust

The Bottling Plant’s commitment to sustainability shows what is possible when businesses put the health of our oceans at the heart of what they do. From responsible sourcing and waste reduction to directly investing in marine conservation, they are taking meaningful action that will benefit both people and the planet. We’re incredibly grateful for their support and proud to work alongside them to help protect our ocean for future generations.
