🔥 AMBER FIRE ALERT – Petersfield Heath & Green Spaces 🔥

An Amber Fire Alert has been issued for much of central and eastern England. We ask everyone to be vigilant over the Bank Holiday weekend as temperatures are set to rise.

Increasingly dry and warm conditions are expected to lead to an elevated wildfire risk, with severe fire conditions forecast and an increased likelihood of difficult-to-control fires.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued a Yellow Heat-Health Alert, currently valid from 9am on Friday 22nd May until 5pm on Wednesday 27th May.

Please take extra care when visiting Petersfield's open spaces:
❌ Barbecues and open fires are not permitted
🚭 Avoid anything that could create a spark or ignition
🌱 Help protect wildlife, habitats, and open spaces from preventable fires

If you see a fire:
➡️ Move to a safe distance immediately
📞 Call 999 and ask for the Fire Service
📍 Provide the exact location if possible (What3Words can be very helpful)
❌ Do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself

Thank you for helping protect lives, wildlife, and the Heath this Bank Holiday weekend 💚

Evidence that toxic pet flea treatment chemicals are widespread in Welsh rivers and harming wildlife, and advice for pet owners.
The chemicals were detected in over three-quarters of the samples that were taken from 62 different locations on nine rivers (over three years). Concentrations of the chemicals were sometimes up to 45 times above safe levels, with the situation shown to be killing aquatic insects.
Pet owners are now urged to take a more "risk-based approach" and to discuss different options, like tablet treatment, with their vet.
