Police are warning businesses and shop staff to be aware of a scam known as “Ringing the Changes”, following incidents reported in Deeside.

The scam typically involves someone asking to exchange cash or pay for a low-value item with a large banknote. They then repeatedly change their mind about the transaction, creating confusion for the cashier. This distraction can result in the scammer leaving with more money than they originally had.

Although the reported incidents occurred in Deeside, businesses across Scotland are being encouraged to remain vigilant.

Police advise businesses to:

* Be aware of how the “Ringing the Changes” scam works.
* Be cautious when handling large banknotes for small purchases.
* Follow clear cash handling procedures.
* Complete one transaction before responding to any new requests or changes.
* Report any suspected scam attempts to Police Scotland.

Please consider sharing this warning with anyone who works in retail or handles cash.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
we have never done this before, since we opened we have endeavoured to stay open all year. But we have taken the decision, not lightly I may add.;to close for the remainder of July.
We will be opening again on the 5th August with our usual first Wednesday of the month soup Cullen Skink. Have a lovely summer , and looking forward to seeing you in August.
