What has the first month of owning an independent café taught us? 👇🏼

Honestly, it’s been a whirlwind.

We knew opening CATH would mean hard work, long days, constant learning and plenty of coffee fuelled mornings. But nothing quite prepares you for the reality of it. The last 4 weeks have been non-stop, with the whole team giving everything to make CATH a place Peterborough can truly call its own.

There have been days where our families barely saw us, nights where it felt like we practically lived in the café, and moments where we questioned if we’d ever sit down again 😅 But every single bit of support we’ve received has reminded us exactly why we started this journey.

Competing with the big chains (we won’t name names, but you know who our neighbours are 😉) isn’t easy. Changing people’s routines is even harder. But seeing familiar faces come back every day, reading your lovely comments, and chatting with customers who genuinely want to support local businesses has honestly meant the world to us.

What makes independent cafés special is that your support doesn’t just stop with us. We work with local suppliers, independent bakers and other small businesses wherever we can. So every coffee you buy has a much bigger impact than people realise. Supporting independents really does help local communities grow.

We know we’re not perfect and there’s still so much we want to improve on. We genuinely value all the feedback, because we want CATH to be the best it can possibly be. We’re ambitious, passionate and definitely not aiming for second place.

So here’s to our first month of CATH 🫶🏼
