Morning, why you should visit George Street. Last Sunday The Sunday Times published a list of the top spots for independent retailers. Researchers used a formula assessing the proportion, diversity, longevity and the quality of independents. The top ten locations span across Britain. George Street came in at no 10. Delighted that The Bean Shop coffee will be served at the beginning of all Perth Film society screenings!

Were super excited! It's just a week to go now until our Autumn 2026 Season starts!
First up we'll be screening In the Nguyen Kitchen at 7:45pm on Thursday 3 September in our usual home of the Joan Knight Studio, Perth Theatre. We'd love to see you there.

In the Nguyen Kitchen is a debut feature by the Franco-Vietnamese director Stéphane Ly-Cuong. Released in 2025, it is a magical, joyous comedy that balances fantastical musical numbers with a story about the harsh reality of being different. Themes of identity, rootlessness, and belonging all surround the serious personal drama at its heart. But the real star of the film is its setting. Clanking utensils and sizzling woks harmonise against an underlying cacophony of self-doubt and societal prejudices. The sanctuary of the Nguyen kitchen represents belonging and connection with family, history, heritage and home.

John is on hanging basket duties today at the roastery. Chenise and Emily made 2 for the shop and 2 for the roastery. 🙌🏻 Now we just need to remember to water them… Can’t wait to see these grow 🌺

After more than two decades with us, Ron is retiring. 🥲 Ron, thank you for everything you have contributed since 2003. Your friendship, loyalty, and commitment to coffee roasting has made a real difference, and you will be much missed. ☕️

We wish you a retirement filled with happiness, good health, new adventures, and plenty of time to enjoy the things you love most. 👋🏻
