Three distinctly summery reads to land in the bookshop recently. They all sound fabulous but we haven't read them as yet. 'Yesteryear' by Caro Claire Burke sounds particularly interesting and is soon coming out as a movie with Anne Hathaway. Anyone read it, or any of the others? 🙂

Wow. What a book! Highly recommended. A fascinating and moving depiction of generations of a Cumbrian family farming (initially) in post-war Britain. Nicola Wilding writes with such warmth and honesty about how and why her family faired as they did.
If you know the local area the book will really resonate, and it does such a good job at explaining how successive governments and post-war societal changes left an entire class behind with no means or path to catch up.
Thank you Nicola Wilding

This is Mabel. Her owner has broken her leg and so has relied on the good hearts of her owner’s friends to take her on lovely walks for the past month. She is 6-years-old, a Frenchton, fully deaf, and very disappointed in her owner for being immobile x

We were lucky enough to host a very special event on Wednesday night, (a far cry from the disaster of football!), with Maria Burton - artist extraordinaire, Kenneth Williams - cellist virtuoso, and Angie and myself - providing the words of Nan Shepherd, who's book 'The Living Mountain' acted as inspiration for Maria and Kenneth as they painted and played. It was unique, never to be repeated, and hopefully enjoyable to all who were there!
Next up, in September, we have the wonderful Penny Bradshaw and her Lakeland Prize winning, 'The A-Z of Beatrix Potter'. Head over to the website for tickets.
