Something lovely is happening out on the terrace this evening ❤️😍

It's time for a and this one is pretty special, think you know fish and chips? You know nothing unless you've ever tried the amazing fish and chips. In cod they trust and if they're frying we must! With epic weather forecast and the kids on hols this is not to be missed. Tuesday the 26th of May 5pm-8pm or sell out. Bar in the Red Lion open from 4pm. See you tomorrow!!

Well what a quick week it's been.
Last Monday, we had the pleasure of attending our Head Chef Leon Jones' wedding.
We all had an amazing day and night celebrating with the happy couple.
Congratulations to both Leon and Jodie ❤️❤️ we wish you all the best for your future together.

This week we said farewell to the man who made us who we are.

Back in 1978 there was a run-down little pile of stones on a hill in Penderyn, its roof’s spine broken, 38 pots and pans catching the rain water pouring through, cinder floors, and 50% of the building completely uninhabitable.

But our Keith saw something we're fairly sure only someone like him could have, he saw the potential, the possibilities and his love and passion for old buildings and real ales lit a fire of determination in him and his love affair with The Red had begun.

His legacy will always stand proudly on a hill in Penderyn having given, and will continue to give, joy to thousands of people, and there will be very few of us, that when our time comes, can honestly say we have made such a lasting impression on so so many people’s lives.

As a family we would like to thank all of you who came to remember him on the day in person and via the live stream from across the globe. He would have been truly humbled, as are we, to see so many cramming into 'The Red' to say their farewells.

Keith was most definitely a unique one off and has left a huge hole in our heart and we will miss him eternally but we will continue to run and develop 'The Red' in his honour but for our Keith it is......

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved landlord, and reason we are here, Keith James on Sunday, 8th March 2026.

In 1978 Keith fell in love with a dilapidated old pub on a hill in Penderyn and dedicated the rest of his life to creating the amazing building and business we are lucky to call home and work today.

His knowledge, skill and extraordinary passion for this industry was unrivalled and the ‘pub game’ has lost a true leader.

He was a much-loved member of our family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His kindness, warmth, and sense of humour touched so many lives, and he will stay with us always as we continue to care for his legacy and drive ‘The Red’ forward in his memory.

We appreciate all the love, support and fond memories which have been shared during this difficult time.

Keith’s funeral will be on Monday the 30th at 2pm in Llwydcoed Crematorium. Followed by refreshments back at his beloved Red Lion.

Donations in lieu of flower can be made to Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis

The fantastic Elevé Academy of Dance are off to Dublin to represent in the 2026 Dance World Cup in July and to help them raise funds to get the team out there we are holding a pub quiz (there may or may not be some dance related questions!) on Monday the 23rd of February. All are very welcome there will be prizes and a raffle on the evening along with some light nibbles.
