I am sad to announce that after 7 years of trading, Rose’s Ice cream is being forced to close its shutters at Treyarnon Bay. I am devestated, and at 8 months pregnant have been left stressed and unsure of our financial future as a family. Without going into details, our loss of the buisness pitch is down to the actions of other avaricious parties.
From me, Rose, personally, I want to thank every single one of my customers. It became an institution, a hub, a place people could meet, chat and relax , a place where I; not only served you treats, but watched your children grow from just bumps in their mummy’s tummies to budding surfers and free spirits. What a delight it has been to get to know you all, many of whom have become great friends of our family.
We have had such success in the last 7 years, being listed as one of the top 5 places to visit in Cornwall, best service, best ice cream , best brew with a view... there were over 7 articles written about us in different national (and one international) papers and magazines. We even had a song written about us and a chapter in a famous author’s novel.
You all created Rose’s Ice cream with me, you showed me love when my beloved father died (whom many of you met as he sat enjoying a sundae on the cliff), you donated generously to Parkinson's disease in memory of him, and then again when we lost my grandmother soon after, like members of a big family. Your children sent me letters and drawings and made me gifts; shell necklaces (thankyou florence) and felt sewn ice creams, and thousands of loom band accessories. You bought balls for and played with Blue who felt she knew you all as family-she even received fan mail.
You all helped when we were broken into twice, you held my baby when I was a new mum trying to juggle work and family life. It was the relationships we created between us that made it a success.
I could bitterly walk away from this, angry at having my buisness imorally taken from me, or I can walk away with my head held high, knowing in good faith that no-one will ever recreate what we had up on that cliff. Rose’s was my baby.
I end this message to you my loyal customers with enormous thanks to you and my glorious staff from over the years that made every ice cream an event! With love and wishes of endless summers and ridiculous sparkling unicorn cones! Goodbye from Rose’s....beaten but unbowed.
Below is a selection of my favourite photos from over the years with you all, I hope you enjoy them! Viva Rose’s, may your memories of Treyarnon Bay always be with a little pink van on the cliff...
