Good Moaning, Everyone, from Hawkers Cove, near Padstow, on Friday 5th June 2026 and welcome to today's long winded boring drivel.

Sorry to repeat the apology for the repetition, of the repetition, but a massive thank you to everyone reading and responding to my daily nonsense and welcome to all the new readers and followers, with more mad people, joining us every day...... It's lovely to have you along!
Please interact by adding your comments, opinions and any photos to my daily nonsense....... I do read them all and try to respond, (eventually) and enjoy knowing what you think!

It's lovely to put faces to names of some of my readers and followers, when you visit, so make sure that you say hello, and tell me who you are!

After posting the 6.00am photo yesterday and predicting (and hoping for) good weather, in time for opening at 11.00am, the rain arrived, again, with a vengeance!
It was persisting down, almost continually, all morning, and I thought I'd got it wrong, (as I frequently do), as 11.00am came and went, but eventually the sun came out and dried the dripping tables and chairs and Alfie and I walked round to open up, about 40 minutes late, at about 11.40am.
It was very quiet and after an hour we hardly saw anybody and couldn't see many people on the the beach, or the Coast Path, in either direction, so was contemplating closing up, when suddenly the garden filled up with happy smiling faces and we were busy again....... for a short while.

It was very windy, but the rain held off and we remained open right through until 3.00pm.
The tea garden was a mixed bag, one minute empty, next minute a few people enjoying our hospitality, and next minute empty again........

The forecast for today is once again for a blustery day, with more sunshine and less wind than yesterday and less showers, which should be lighter, so I'm hoping to be able to open just before 11.00am and dodge those showers, which may, or may not, pass us by (fingers crossed) .......
Make the most of today though, because we are going to be hit with gale force winds tomorrow, which may affect whether we can open, or not.........
Sorry for the repetition to those of you who regularly read this drivel, but you will know that my weather forecasting skills, sometimes leave a lot to be desired, so once again, if it's dry, we will open, but if it's raining we won't....... lol.
Optimistically, (as usual), I think we will be opening!
Our little micro climate usually serves us well.
It can be persisting down in Tesco car park and we drive back to glorious sunshine in the cove, only two miles away.
This is often the case, but if the weather is 'iffy' please give me a call to check, before setting out........ (lightweight wet weather gear, in your backpack, just in case).

Our Quiches, will be out of the oven and ready to serve from 11.00am, as well as our Traditional and Savoury Cream Teas and most of our other goodies....... weather permitting!

When Alfie took me round the block last night at about 10.30pm, it was mostly dry, with a touch of mizzle, but blowing a hoolie...........
No sign of the moon, but again, I was too early!
I took my phone, but didn't see anything much, nature wise, to photograph.............
Once again, no hedgehog, no bats, no toads, no cats........ lol

Sunrise, today at 5.08am and sunset at 9.28pm, so only one minute more daylight than yesterday, as the days keep getting longer, (now 15 to 20 ish more minutes of daylight, each week, which all mount up), as we head towards the longest day of the year, in just over two weeks........

The Longest Day: Summer Solstice
Sunday, 21 June 2026
On this day, in Padstow, we will get roughly 16 hours and 26 minutes of daylight.
Sunrise at about 5:08 am and Sunset at about 9:34 pm, but because of "Civil Twilight," it will actually start getting light as early as 4:22 am and won't be fully dark until about 10:20 pm.

Back to today.......
High tide, in Padstow, is at 9.02 this morning and 9.23 this evening, and low tide is at 3.20pm, so you should be able to get to Hawkers Cove, once again, across the beach, after lunch, if we're open..........
The moon is in its waning gibbous phase, so visually will continue appearing smaller, for the next few days.
Just under three quarters of the moon will be visible, clouds permitting, from 12.52 tonight, until about 9.29 tomorrow morning ..........

Today's pic from my bedroom window, at 5.30am, is a bit brighter than yesterday, with the sun trying to get through the clouds and looking promising for a nice day........
Looking across to Polzeath and Trebetherick and out to the end of the headland at Pentire Point, with the sea looking quite calm, in the estuary. (Mind you, I said yesterday that it was calm, but when I saw the photo from our friends at NCI Coastwatch Padstow at Stepper Point, it was anything but calm....... rough as buggery!)
So I'm only saying what I can see out of the window.........

The official forecast is again blustery, with sunshine and fast moving showers, which should be fewer and lighter than yesterday.......
As usual, I'm hoping that the showers will miss us, (they did yesterday), but I would advise any walkers to carry some lightweight wet weather gear, just in case.........
Hopefully we'll see some of you later.......

Happy holidays everyone xx

Here's the promised video of Alfie enjoying some birthday treats yesterday, whilst doing his meerkat impression........
Facebook wouldn't let me post it with my daily ramblings......
See you soon xx

Good Moaning, My Beauties, from Hawkers Cove, near Padstow, on Thursday 4th June 2026 and welcome to today's nonsensical ramblings.......... (long winded boring drivel, some say..... lol)

A massive thank you to everyone who wished Alfie a happy birthday, yesterday.
Some requests for a photo of him, so I've gone one better and included a short video of him doing his meerkat impression, whilst enjoying a meaty treat yesterday afternoon.
I never taught him to sit up and beg, he just started doing it one day and quite often sits on his haunches, looking around (like a meerkat).
He's now six and I love him to bits!
He follows me everywhere, even to the loo, and sits on the bath mat, whilst I'm in the shower.
Anyone seeing us together would think I'm a nutter, talking to him as if he were a person.
I explain everything to him and tell him what we're going to do and when Dawn's away, we have deep meaningful (one sided) conversations, (so perhaps I am a nutter)......

After posting the glorious pre sunrise photo at 5.00am yesterday and predicting (and hoping for) good weather, in time for opening at 11.00am, the rain arrived, with a vengeance!
It was persisting down, almost continually, for the next five hours and I thought I'd got it wrong, (as I frequently do), but the sun came out and dried the dripping tables and chairs and Alfie and I walked round to open up at about 10.45am.
It was a bit quiet so my happy helper went home at about 12.30 as there was no point two of us doing nothing and I thought I could manage on my own.......
Needless to say, I then saw a steady stream of happy people, some of whom didn't realise we were here, and others purposely seeking us out, after reading my daily nonsense!

I managed to remain open all the way through, with very little rain, (only one umbrella issued through the window, which was only used for a couple of minutes) and although the wind picked up, it wasn't cold and everyone seemed to be enjoying their visit to our little piece of heaven........

The forecast for today is once again for a blustery day, with sunshine and showers, so I'm hoping to be able to open just before 11.00am and dodge those pesky showers, which may, or may not, pass us by (fingers crossed) .......

If the weather is 'iffy' then please give me a call to check, before setting out........ (lightweight wet weather gear, in your backpack, just in case).

Scones, quiches and our Giant 'Very Cheesy' Cheese Scones, will be fresh out of the oven and ready to serve from 11.00am....... weather permitting!

When Alfie took me round the block last night at about 11.05pm, it was mostly dry, with a touch of mizzle, but blowing a hoolie...........
No sign of the moon, but again, I think I was too early!
I took my phone, but didn't see anything much, nature wise, to photograph.............
Once again, no hedgehog, no bats, and only one toad........
I don't know what's happened to the bats........ there's normally two of them down by the Pilot Cottages, but I haven't seen them for a few nights!

Sunrise, today at 5.08am and sunset at 9.27pm, so two minutes more daylight than yesterday, as the days keep getting longer, (now 15 to 20 ish more minutes of daylight, each week, which all mount up), as we head towards the longest day of the year, in less than three weeks........

High tide, today in Padstow, is at 8.25 this morning and 8.45 this evening, and low tide is at 2.44pm, so you should be able to get to Hawkers Cove, once again, across the beach, after lunch, if we're open..........
The moon is in its waning gibbous phase, so visually will be appearing smaller, for the next few days, until it disappears completely....... (the new moon on 14th June).
Just over three quarters of the moon will be visible, clouds permitting, from 12.28 tonight, until about 8.16 tomorrow morning ..........

Today's pic from my bedroom window, at 6.25am, is a bit grey.
Looking across to Trebetherick and Daymer Bay, with St Enodoc Church in view and the sea quite calm, but choppy round the edges......... (St Enodoc Church is where the famous poet, Sir John Betjemen, is buried).
Also tried to include promised video of Alfie, but it won't let me do both....... so I'll post Alfie separately........

The official forecast is very blustery, with sunshine and fast moving showers, which may be heavy.......
As usual, I'm hoping that the showers will miss us, but I would advise any walkers to carry some lightweight wet weather gear, just in case.........
Hopefully we'll see some of you later.......

Happy holidays everyone xx

Good Moaning, Lovely People, from Hawkers Cove, near Padstow, on Wednesday 3rd June 2026 and welcome to today's longwinded boring ramblings, on Alfie's 6th birthday..........

I can't believe how many of you have nothing better to do than read my 'boring longwinded drivel' and are not embarrassed to tell me, when you visit.......
I'm only joking........
I love meeting you and I love getting your comments, so please keep them coming!

Yesterday morning whilst half asleep, I posted my ramblings, before adding the photo....... so apologies to the early viewers who messaged me asking where the photo was.......
It took me a while to sort out and I'm still not 100% sure that the photo was added to all of the posts.
Please let me know if I have missed any.
Hopefully I'll learn from my stupid mistake and it won't happen again..... (hopefully).

We opened at about 10.45am yesterday, while the weather was good and saw a steady stream of happy people, some of whom were purposely seeking us out, after reading my daily drivel!
I predicted, in yesterday's ramblings, that the 'experts' could have possibly got the weather forecast wrong and that if we could avoid the showers until lunchtime we would be ok until 3.00pm, without having to close early........
It turned out that, for once, I was right!
We managed to remain open all the way through, with no rain and although the wind picked up, it wasn't cold and everyone seemed to be enjoying their visit to our little piece of heaven........

The forecast for today is once again for a blustery day, with sunshine and showers, so I'm hoping to be able to open just before 11.00am and dodge those pesky showers, which will hopefully pass us by, (or maybe not).......
Those of you who regularly read this drivel, will know that my weather forecasting skills, sometimes leave a lot to be desired, so once again, if it's dry, we will open, but if it's raining we won't....... lol.
I think we will be opening.
If the weather is 'iffy' then please give me a call to check, before setting out........ (lightweight wet weather gear, in your backpack, just in case).
Think positive. We won't need it!

Scones and quiches, will be fresh out of the oven and ready to serve from 11.00am.......

When Alfie took me round the block last night at about 10.50pm, it was still dry, but blowing a hoolie...........
No sign of the moon, but I think I was too early!
I took my phone, but didn't see anything much, nature wise, to photograph.............
Once again, no hedgehog, no bats, nor even toads........ loads of snails, and evidence of the neighbours cats, doing what cats do, with two dead mice on the path............ (I didn't think you'd appreciate a pic of those).

Sunrise, today at 5.09am and sunset at 9.26pm, so only one minute more daylight than yesterday, as the days keep getting longer, (now 15 to 20 ish more minutes of daylight, each week, which all mount up), as we head towards the longest day of the year, in less than three weeks........

High tide, today in Padstow, is at 7.52 this morning and 8.09 this evening, and low tide is at 2.11pm, so you should be able to get to Hawkers Cove, across the beach, after lunch, if we're open..........
The moon is in its waning gibbous phase, so visually will start appearing smaller, for the next few days.
The moon, will be visible, clouds permitting, from midnight tonight, until about 7.07, tomorrow morning ..........

Today's pic from my bedroom window, at 5.00am, is glorious!
Beautiful colours, in amongst the clouds, before sunrise........ (No filters or photo editing. What you see is my view from my bed).......
I love being able to wake up to this!
Every day is different, but always lovely, in its own way.
A brisk breeze, and a calm sea, looking across to Trebetherick and Polzeath.
Forecast sunshine and showers, so once again I'm optimistic (I'm always optimistic) that we will be opening at 11.00am today with plenty of our homemade goodies, to keep us going........
If it does start persisting down, we may have to close early, but I'm quietly confident that we will be open and hopefully stay open........ (Don't quote me on that).
I was going to add a quick video of Alfie enjoying some birthday treats, but it's a bit early for him, so I'll do that separately, later on.
Keep an eye out for that and I'm sure you'll love him axis much as I do........

We are looking forward to seeing everyone who can get to the tea garden today, if it's not raining, so don't forget to say hello and introduce yourselves........

Please make the effort, to come and see us.........
You know that you'll get a very warm welcome and once you get here, you can sit, enjoy some warm scones, (or anything else that takes your fancy), soak up our amazing views and atmosphere, and 'Rest A While'........... with free use of an umbrella, if required........ lol.

Happy holidays everyone xx

This was the photo from my bedroom window on Tuesday 2nd June, that should have been included with my daily ramblings......
I was half asleep and made the post, without the pic!
Trying to correct it, I posted the pic, without the post!
Doe!
I think I eventually sorted most of the photo-less posts, but this pic is still floating around on its own........
This is what happens when a seventy year old luddite, tries to master technology, whilst not fully awake! xx

Good Moaning, My Lovelies, from Hawkers Cove, near Padstow, on Tuesday 2nd June 2026 and welcome to today's nonsensical ramblings..........

Sorry for the repetition, of the repetition, but a massive thank you to everyone reading and responding to my daily ramblings and welcome to all the new readers and followers, with more mad people, joining us every day......

Not much to say today, you'll be pleased (and possibly relieved) to know. (Don't hold your breath though, as I am renowned for my 'long winded boring drivel').
I opened about twenty minutes early yesterday, while the weather was good and saw a few happy souls, some of whom were purposely seeking us out.
I predicted, in yesterday's ramblings, that the 'experts' could have possibly got the weather forecast wrong and we would avoid the showers until about 2.00pm......... when we may have to close early........
It turned out that the 'experts' were nearer than I was, to being correct!
We managed to remain open until the heavens opened at about 12.25pm and Alfie and I traipsed round to close up.

The forecast for today is for a blustery day, with sunshine and showers, slightly less chance of rain than yesterday, so I'm still hoping to be able to open at 11.00am and I think we may dodge the showers, which will hopefully pass us by, by lunchtime (or maybe not).......
Those of you who regularly read this drivel, will know that my weather forecasting skills leave a lot to be desired, so once again, if it's dry, we will open, but if it's raining we won't....... lol.
If the weather is at all uncertain, then please give me a call to check, before setting out........ (lightweight wet weather gear, in your backpack, just in case).

Scones and quiches, will be ready to serve from 11.00am.......

When Alfie took me round the block last night at 12.15am it was persisting down and we both got wet........
Couldn't see the full moon, due to the clouds.
I took my phone, but didn't see anything much of nature, no hedgehog, no bats, not even toads........ only about two million snails, out and about, enjoying the moisture.

Talking nature...... I forgot to mention yesterday that, the previous afternoon, just as I sat down to watch the football, Dawn gave me an anxious shout.........
'There's a bird flying around the bedroom'!
I went in to find the tiniest Blue Tit chick, only recently fledged, by the look of it, sat on the lampshade.
When I entered the room it flew round, obviously in panic, before settling high up on a wardrobe top door handle.
It sat very still as my two (giant) hands gently surrounded it and I placed it out the window, onto the sill.
In a split second it was gone!
My good deed for the day and feeling like Dr Doolittle!

Sunrise, today at 5.09am and sunset at 9.25pm, so only two minutes more daylight than yesterday, as the days keep getting longer, (still 15 to 20 ish more minutes of daylight, each week, which all mount up), as we head towards the longest day of the year, in less than three weeks........

High tide, today in Padstow, is at 7.18 this morning and 7.35 this evening, and low tide is at 1.39pm, so you should be able to get to Hawkers Cove, across the beach, if we're open..........
It's still classed as a full moon, so almost the whole of the moon, will be visible today, clouds permitting, from about 11.56 tonight, until about 6.05, tomorrow morning ..........

Today's pic from my bedroom window, at 6.15am, is a bit of a mixed bag.........
It's not raining, but everything is dripping wet, so it has been, all night.
A brisk breeze, and very bright above the clouds and across the calm sea, from Trebetherick and Polzeath.
Forecast sunshine and showers, so once again I'm optimistic (I'm always optimistic) that we will be opening at 11.00am today with plenty of our homemade goodies, to keep us going........
If it does start persisting down, as it did yesterday, we may have to close early, but I'm quietly confident that we will be open. (Don't quote me on that).

We are looking forward to seeing everyone who can get to the tea garden today, if it's not raining, so don't forget to say hello and introduce yourselves........

Please make the effort, to come and see us.........
You know that you'll get a very warm welcome and once you get here, you can sit, enjoy some warm scones, (or anything else that takes your fancy), soak up our amazing views and atmosphere, and 'Rest A While'........... with free use of an umbrella, if required........ lol.

I'm off to do some baking!

Happy holidays everyone xx

Well......
We opened about twenty minutes early this morning while the weather was good and managed to keep going for about an hour and fifty minutes until the rain arrived earlier than I had predicted.......
At 12.30 the rain hit...... see the vid from my lounge window.....
So unfortunately, we are calling it a day for today and hoping for better tomorrow......
I'll let you know what's happening in my long winded boring ramblings tomorrow morning.
Loads of love from Hawkers Cove xx

Well we opened at 10.40 this morning and the weather's good..... (so far)

We will stay open until 3.00pm, unless it starts persisting down, in which case we will close up and hopefully see everyone sometime this week if we can dodge the forecast sporadic showers, every day!

If it starts raining, please give us a ring before setting out, to check that we're opening....... xx

Here we go again.........
A pinch and a punch, first day of the month and no returns..........
Good Moaning, My Beauties, from Hawkers Cove, near Padstow, on Monday 1st June 2026 and welcome to todays long winded (weather obsessed) drivel..........
It's the first day of meteorological summer, so obviously it's going to rain (or maybe not).........

Sorry for the repetition, of the repetition, but a massive thank you to everyone reading and responding to my daily ramblings and welcome to all the new readers and followers, with more mad people, joining us every day......

Yesterday the forecast showers didn't materialise and we enjoyed a reasonably busy day, with lovely weather, through to 3.00pm, and met loads of friendly people, many of whom weren't embarrassed to admit that they read my daily nonsense........
It was lovely to meet Yvonne and her husband (originally from Glasgow, but now living down south) and lots of (reasonably) local people, from Wadebridge, Bodmin, Lostwithiel, Saltash and Newquay, to name but a few......... (one couple even crossed the Tamar, from Plymouth, in England. We don't say the 'D' word here)..........
I did call out of the window, that some of them were enjoying themselves too much and I would have to charge them extra, but it made no difference....... lol

The forecast for today is not good, but as yesterday shows, the 'experts' are not always right so we shall have to wait and see......... with a forecast 90% chance of rain during our opening hours, how wrong can they be?
Looking at the late BBC Weather Forecast last night, and again this morning, I think we may dodge the showers, possibly until about 2.00ish and may have to close early (or maybe not).......
Those of you who regularly read this nonsense, will know that my weather forecasting skills leave a lot to be desired, so if it's dry, we will open, but if it's raining we won't....... lol.
Sorry I can't be more specific.
If the weather is 'iffy' then please give me a call to check, before setting out........
Either land-line or mobile number as I'm happy to report that my broadband is still working, (so far, touch wood).
Ever the optimist, I shall be baking scones and quiches, which will be ready to serve from 11.00am.......

When Alfie took me round the block last night at 10.45 it was warm and dry, with very little wind and we passed by a couple of toads, (we regularly see toads) and a cat, which provoked little reaction, but as we were almost home he got very excited and quite animated........
He was curious, but cautious........ Something moved and he jumped two feet in the air!
As I caught up with him I found that he had discovered his first hedgehog, which had rolled itself into a protective ball........
I ran inside to get my phone and I was back within thirty seconds to get a photo, for you all, but it was gone!
I'll make sure that I go equipped each night from tonight onwards........

Sunrise at 5.10am and sunset at 9.24pm, so four minutes more daylight than yesterday, as the days keep getting longer, (now 15 to 20 ish more minutes of daylight, each week, which all mount up), as we head towards the longest day of the year, in only three weeks........

High tide, today in Padstow, is at 6.44 this morning and 7.01 this evening, and low tide is at 1.07pm, so you should be able to get to Hawkers Cove, across the beach, if we're open..........
The difference, between the tides is at it's maximum, (for now), due to today's ongoing full moon (Blue Moon)..........
The whole of the moon, will be visible today, from about 11.13 this evening until about 5.13, tomorrow morning ..........

Today's pic from my bedroom window, at 6.50am, is a bit white!
Misty, cloudy and damp, but not raining, (yet), although the tables are wet, so it has been.
No wind, and a flat calm sea, looking across to Trebetherick and Polzeath, so I'm optimistic (I'm always optimistic) that we will be opening at 11.00am today with plenty of scones and quiches, (and our other goodies), to keep us going........
If it does start persisting down, we may have to close early, but I'm keeping everything crossed that we will open and the mizzle will disappear.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone who can get to the tea garden today, (if it's not raining), so don't forget to say hello and introduce yourselves........

Please make the effort, to come and see us.........
You know that you'll get a very warm welcome and once you get here, you can sit, enjoy some warm scones, (or anything else that takes your fancy), soak up our amazing views (possibly a bit 'white', today) and atmosphere, and 'Rest A While'........... with free use of an umbrella, if required........ lol.

Happy holidays everyone xx
