Good Moaning, Everyone, from Hawkers Cove, near Padstow, on Friday 5th June 2026 and welcome to today's long winded boring drivel.
Sorry to repeat the apology for the repetition, of the repetition, but a massive thank you to everyone reading and responding to my daily nonsense and welcome to all the new readers and followers, with more mad people, joining us every day...... It's lovely to have you along!
Please interact by adding your comments, opinions and any photos to my daily nonsense....... I do read them all and try to respond, (eventually) and enjoy knowing what you think!
It's lovely to put faces to names of some of my readers and followers, when you visit, so make sure that you say hello, and tell me who you are!
After posting the 6.00am photo yesterday and predicting (and hoping for) good weather, in time for opening at 11.00am, the rain arrived, again, with a vengeance!
It was persisting down, almost continually, all morning, and I thought I'd got it wrong, (as I frequently do), as 11.00am came and went, but eventually the sun came out and dried the dripping tables and chairs and Alfie and I walked round to open up, about 40 minutes late, at about 11.40am.
It was very quiet and after an hour we hardly saw anybody and couldn't see many people on the the beach, or the Coast Path, in either direction, so was contemplating closing up, when suddenly the garden filled up with happy smiling faces and we were busy again....... for a short while.
It was very windy, but the rain held off and we remained open right through until 3.00pm.
The tea garden was a mixed bag, one minute empty, next minute a few people enjoying our hospitality, and next minute empty again........
The forecast for today is once again for a blustery day, with more sunshine and less wind than yesterday and less showers, which should be lighter, so I'm hoping to be able to open just before 11.00am and dodge those showers, which may, or may not, pass us by (fingers crossed) .......
Make the most of today though, because we are going to be hit with gale force winds tomorrow, which may affect whether we can open, or not.........
Sorry for the repetition to those of you who regularly read this drivel, but you will know that my weather forecasting skills, sometimes leave a lot to be desired, so once again, if it's dry, we will open, but if it's raining we won't....... lol.
Optimistically, (as usual), I think we will be opening!
Our little micro climate usually serves us well.
It can be persisting down in Tesco car park and we drive back to glorious sunshine in the cove, only two miles away.
This is often the case, but if the weather is 'iffy' please give me a call to check, before setting out........ (lightweight wet weather gear, in your backpack, just in case).
Our Quiches, will be out of the oven and ready to serve from 11.00am, as well as our Traditional and Savoury Cream Teas and most of our other goodies....... weather permitting!
When Alfie took me round the block last night at about 10.30pm, it was mostly dry, with a touch of mizzle, but blowing a hoolie...........
No sign of the moon, but again, I was too early!
I took my phone, but didn't see anything much, nature wise, to photograph.............
Once again, no hedgehog, no bats, no toads, no cats........ lol
Sunrise, today at 5.08am and sunset at 9.28pm, so only one minute more daylight than yesterday, as the days keep getting longer, (now 15 to 20 ish more minutes of daylight, each week, which all mount up), as we head towards the longest day of the year, in just over two weeks........
The Longest Day: Summer Solstice
Sunday, 21 June 2026
On this day, in Padstow, we will get roughly 16 hours and 26 minutes of daylight.
Sunrise at about 5:08 am and Sunset at about 9:34 pm, but because of "Civil Twilight," it will actually start getting light as early as 4:22 am and won't be fully dark until about 10:20 pm.
Back to today.......
High tide, in Padstow, is at 9.02 this morning and 9.23 this evening, and low tide is at 3.20pm, so you should be able to get to Hawkers Cove, once again, across the beach, after lunch, if we're open..........
The moon is in its waning gibbous phase, so visually will continue appearing smaller, for the next few days.
Just under three quarters of the moon will be visible, clouds permitting, from 12.52 tonight, until about 9.29 tomorrow morning ..........
Today's pic from my bedroom window, at 5.30am, is a bit brighter than yesterday, with the sun trying to get through the clouds and looking promising for a nice day........
Looking across to Polzeath and Trebetherick and out to the end of the headland at Pentire Point, with the sea looking quite calm, in the estuary. (Mind you, I said yesterday that it was calm, but when I saw the photo from our friends at NCI Coastwatch Padstow at Stepper Point, it was anything but calm....... rough as buggery!)
So I'm only saying what I can see out of the window.........
The official forecast is again blustery, with sunshine and fast moving showers, which should be fewer and lighter than yesterday.......
As usual, I'm hoping that the showers will miss us, (they did yesterday), but I would advise any walkers to carry some lightweight wet weather gear, just in case.........
Hopefully we'll see some of you later.......
Happy holidays everyone xx
