From Trinidad & Tobago to the streets of London… you can always find we. 🇹🇹❤️

Today marks 64 years of Independence for Trinidad & Tobago, gaining independence from Britain on 31 August 1962.

A small twin-island nation whose influence reaches far beyond its shores. The birthplace of steelpan, the home of Soca, and a Carnival culture that has travelled across the world including right here to Notting Hill. 🎶🇹🇹

For us at Spiced Roots, keeping that culture moving through the food, rum, music and stories we share is a big part of what we do.

Jamaica has a rum story that goes back centuries… on Thursday, we’re pouring you four chapters of it. 🇯🇲🥃

On Thursday 27th August, we’re welcoming Dean MacGregor to Spiced Roots for an evening dedicated to Hampden Estate. One of Jamaica’s historic rum distilleries.

You’ll taste four different Hampden rums while Dean takes you through the flavours, production, history and why Jamaican rum has such a distinctive character.

And the best part? The masterclass is completely FREE.

Big love to YOURBOYWONDER for coming through to Spiced Roots. Always good connecting with people from our own city who are putting in the work, creating and representing Oxford in their own way.

Food, a few drinks and plenty of conversation, exactly how we like it.

We’re big on supporting what’s happening right here in Oxford, so expect to see more collaborations with local artists, creatives, athletes and people doing their thing across the city.

This is what happens when Sip & Paint turns into a little Caribbean lime… 🎨🍹😂

We started with blank canvases, a few drinks and everyone concentrating on their paintings… then the music started doing what Caribbean music does. 😭

Paint. Sip. Laugh. Dance. Somehow finish the masterpiece. 🌴🎨

And whatever you do — keep your sound ON until the end. 🔊😂 Someone clearly forgot we were supposed to be painting…

Cocktails taste a little different when you actually know what’s gone into them. 🍹👀

A look back at our last masterclass with Melissa, where everyone gathered around the table as she talked through the spirits, ingredients, techniques and stories behind the cocktails before putting it all together.

And now we’re doing it again but this time we’re going deep into Jamaican rum. 🇯🇲🥃

On Thursday 27th August at 6:30pm, Dean MacGregor will be joining us at Spiced Roots to guide you through four different Hampden Estate rums, sharing the history, flavours and what makes this style of Jamaican rum so distinctive.

No rum knowledge needed, that’s the whole point. Come down, taste, ask questions and leave knowing something you didn’t before.
