Providing hungover and apathetic students with breakfast, lunch, and dinner since 8:30 a.m., Pantry is the largest student-run source of melted cheese and hot food in Oxford. Whether you need that final push to help you out a Tuesday night, or just fancy a cheeky sausage to get you going in the morning Pantry is the place to come. Featuring a dappled history of high cholesterol and chronic type-2
diabetes this fine establishment serves students their daily requirements of calories up to three times a day. Run by the oddly greasy "foodie siblings" and frequented by the uniquely wonderful students of Balliol College, and occasionally a few others (oh well…) pantry is filled with at least 3 different pieces of fruit alongside out pair of deep-fat fryers and a healthy dose of salt. Based on a philosophy of providing a service to students rather than taking their money, Pantry aims not to make a profit, but instead to give students he unique benefit of a student-run food shop in college to help the JCR and its members. This all began in 1263 with the anger of the Bishop of Durham at John de Balliol, not for his lack of respect for the bishop, but instead his devotion to fried breakfasts which he ensured all students had access to, thus angering the Bishop, a staunch health-nut. This tradition of unhealthy food has gone from strength to strength, with Balliol students now having access to all kinds of special treats on special occasions, as well as the ever-glorious formal pantry.
