We are so sorry, but we are still awaiting repairs for the technical issue in our kitchen. Unfortunately, we will not be able to host our regular ‘Steak Frites’ night tomorrow (Thursday the 3rd).

We hate to disappoint you, so we will be offering our Duck Confit Frites with a glass of house w**e.

We would love to see you there!

This one comes with a bit of a kick.

The weather has rather given up on us, so we are bringing the warmth indoors instead. Half a roast chicken in piri piri, golden and gently fiery. A pile of paprika chips. A bright little salad of tomato, red onion and coriander. And a good spoonful of home made roast garlic alioli and chilli oil to bring it all together.

And because the forecast is what it is, it comes with a 250ml carafe of house w**e. Naturally.

A bit of heat, a little glass of something, and the rain left firmly outside. That is the sort of evening we like.

From Wednesday 2nd September. Book a table, bring someone good, leave the umbrella by the door.

Quick update for tomorrow evening

We are so sorry, but due to a technical fault in our kitchen, we won’t be able to run our usual Thursday ‘Steak Frites’ night tomorrow (Thursday 27th).

We hate to disappoint you, so we will be offering our Tuesday night ‘Saucisse Frites’ as an ‘extra day’ alternative!

We’d love to still see you, so please do book in.

Laura’s middle name? Attention to detail.

Look around Pompette and there is not a single thing here by accident. Every chair, every mirror, every ornament has been chosen, fussed over and lovingly placed.

Laura has a gift for it. A seasoned eBay treasure hunter and a devoted rummager of French flea markets, she can spot the one perfect piece in a sea of bric-a-brac from across the room. If it is here, it earned its spot.

And the best part? Everything has a story. Every object carried home, dusted off and given a new little life at Pompette.

So next time you are in, have a proper look around. You never know what you might be sitting next to.

Oh we are excited about this one.

We are whisking you off to sunnier shores. Half a roast chicken, lemon, garlic and oregano, all golden and fragrant. A pile of proper olive oil chips. A crisp, cheerful Greek salad. And a good dollop of tzatziki to bring it all together.

And because life is short and lunch should be lovely, it comes with a 250ml carafe of house w**e. Naturally.

Sunshine on a plate, a little glass of something, and nowhere to be. That is the sort of afternoon we like.

Every Wednesday in August.

Did you know we wrote a cookbook? We are still a little giddy about it.

A heartfelt journey through classic European cuisine, rooted in French tradition. All the comforting, seasonal recipes you have spotted on our menus, inspired by Pascal’s family heritage. Plus the candid story behind Pompette, kitchen trials, pandemic pivots and all.

Bring a little Pompette magic into your own kitchen. The kind of meal that leaves you feeling just a little… pompette.

Still available, in the restaurant and online. Swipe for a peek of some of our favourite recipes.

Gougères

Lovely little Burgundian cheesy puffs, made in a classic way. Lots of chefs will make a choux pastry bun then pipe sauce into it – but for me, that’s cheating. The pastry is baked just so, so it’s enticingly soft and ever so slightly gooey in the centre.

Cervelle de Canut

A Lyonnaise classic served in the traditional bouchons of the city and a signature Pompette dish which translates as ‘the brain of the silk worker’. Working-class citizens in Lyon used to eat this humble snack of fresh cheese, onions and herbs for lunch. It often takes people by surprise and is a great example of a dish being so much more than the sum of its part

Rabbit Leg, Alsace Bacon & Mustard Sauce ‘Façon Racine’

This is a dish from Henry Harris at Racine which he’s given his blessing to include on our menu. We used to use whole rabbits, but rabbit leg works really well. It’s harmony on a plate, and simplicity too – four different elements, delivering a joy of colour; the pink, the brown, the green and the mustardy sauce which should be whisked in right at the end. Can you resist dipping a chip in that?

This jewel of French patisserie is known for its deeply caramelised crust and soft, custardy centre. These are notoriously difficult to cook, and something I’ve always admired. The secret to getting it right is to use a good-quality copper mould. They contain egg yolks – no whites – because the vineyard owners of Bordeaux needed the whites to clarify their w**es. We add a little caramel on top to perk things up

Bonjour and welcome, you lovely lot. Pull up a chair, we’ve saved you a seat.

Whether you found us for the Jambon Buerre, the w**e, or just the buzz of a full room on a Friday, we’re so glad you’re here. Consider yourself part of the furniture now (the comfy kind).

If we haven’t been properly introduced, let us do the honours. Here are a few of the faces you’ll come to know and love, the ones pouring the w**e, plating the pud, and keeping the good times flowing. Santé to that.

This is Dom, who runs our kitchen and makes it look easy.

We’re rather fond of him.

This is Ben.

He knows the room, the w**e list, and roughly what you’re going to order before you do.

This is where your jambon beurre starts. Pt 2.

Paddock Farm, with Nick, who raises the pork. Then straight back to the terrace for a long lunch and the rest of the story.

Thank you for putting the whole day together.

Quelle journée.

Yesterday we gathered some brilliant people, food writers, friends and fellow enthusiasts, and headed to Paddock Farm to meet Nick, the man behind the pork for our Jambon beurre. His passion is infectious, the pigs are living leur meilleure vie, and one lucky piglet got a cuddle from the whole group.

Then back to Pompette for a long déjeuner on the terrace, telling the story of that pork from field to slicer to plate. Days like this are our favourite. Great people, great produce, and a table full of laughter.

A huge merci to YARROW, who made yesterday happen.
