Hello 2026! It’s almost the end of January and we haven’t posted yet! 😅We are still here but when things get a little crazy, social media is always the first thing to go. Here’s a little peek behind the curtain at what’s been keeping us off the socials..
Life as a family-run café can feel like a rollercoaster at the best of times, and 2025 was very much that: highs, lows, and plenty of moments where it felt like we were clinging on by our fingernails. Hospitality isn’t for the faint-hearted, that’s for sure. 🤦🏻♀️
Our usual Christmas “holiday” — those precious few days when we close the café and spend proper time together as a family — didn’t quite go to plan this year. We closed on the evening of the 23rd, with a simple job booked in for Christmas Eve: retiling the gents’ loo. Turns out those cracked tiles were hiding a much bigger problem… a slow leak that had been quietly wreaking havoc for years. Rotten joists, a soaked subfloor and a collapsed ceiling later, Christmas Eve and Boxing Day were spent frantically ringing plumbers, builders, joiners, electricians — and discovering our insurance wasn’t going to save the day.
So we want to say a huge thank you to some absolute heroes:
• Kevin Morrissey of , who showed up at 8am on New Year’s Day and worked all day to replace joists, subfloor and ceiling
• Graham from Aquarius Plumbing for fitting the new loo and retiling
• Alfie from , who came in and worked late during his evenings to touch up the paintwork despite being flat out.
And an apology to our lovely kids for the unexpectedly stressed parents over Christmas. They’ve grown up with small-business curveballs and take it all in their stride, but with two now away at uni and only one still at home, family time feels extra precious — so it was sad not to get the calm, restorative break we’d hoped for.
Still. The café is standing, the loo is solid, and we’re still here.
✨ Happy New Year — and thank you for sticking with us. We’re really looking forward to seeing you all in 2026. ❤️☕️
