May you never ever lose the small joys in the hope for the big happiness 💫

A little dose of Glencoe’s entirely peaceful Golden Hour potion on our drive home to Lochaline yesterday, was the perfect end to a beautiful Christmas week spent in Ayrshire with those we love the mostest 🌄🎄
Since being back we’ve definitely felt those feels right before New Year where you start questioning what day it even is and what you’re supposed to be doing with yourself 🙈 but you know what, we’re perfectly okay with that …
Because when is Toblerone for breakfast 🍫 the fact its NEVER too early for a glass of bubbles 🥂 or that mince pies are a staple with every meal 🥧 a bad thing 🥰 We hope you are enjoying your ongoing festivities in whichever way makes you happy too 🎄Just as we are thinking of all of our fellow hospitality workers and business owners out there going above and beyond to make it happen ♥️

✨❄️ Winter Solstice ❄️✨

To anyone who’s not feeling merry and bright, I just want to remind you that’s perfectly alright. If it’s not all tinsel, fairy lights and festive cheer but instead it’s anxiety, worry, stress, and fear - because to you it’s not “the most wonderful time of the year🎄
Know that like seasons those feelings will change. With time, you’ll find your way again and just like today, the shortest day of the year - the bad times will pass and your mind will be clear. So look up to the dark and breathe her in. Feel the stars twinkle against your skin and have faith that the light will soon too shine within. Remember you’re loved and please stay safe, because YOU make this world a better place 🌟🤍

It’s the little things in life ✨
Little things like being able to watch the sunrise and sunset. That first sip of hot coffee in the morning. Climbing into a warm bed with fresh new sheets. A smile from a stranger. Laughing until your tummy muscles hurt. The smell of freshly cut grass. Random acts of kindness. Sleeping as the rain gently beats down on your window. Rainbows, double rainbows, and the wonder you feel when they appear in the sky. Making someone else happy. The instant sense of calm that being by the water adds to your soul. Tiny grains of sand beneath your toes. Getting completely lost in a new book. The way a song can lift your mood. Tasting something delicious for the first time. Swimming at moonlight for the first time. The spark when someone you like holds your hand in theirs. Hugging your pet. Dancing like a maniac whilst nobody is watching. There’s so many little things that make this life so precious. That cost nothing, yet mean everything. That are so small and simple, they sometimes go unnoticed in our every day lives - yet have the power to change how we feel during our every day lives, if we only payed them a little more attention. Arriving at The Nest to find these little messages left for us on the boards by our lovely team was definitely up there with one of our favourite little moments this weekend 🥺✨ such a unexpected little surprise 🥰 We really are so grateful to have had the pleasure of working with 3 wonderful wee humans. The Nest simply wouldn’t have been the Nest Without them 🖤

Does anyone ever have one of those moments where you find yourself getting a little lost in some place new or maybe even getting a little lost in some place not so new - but just finding yourself standing there, so in awe of the beauty before your eyes, and the calm that reaches your soul whilst you are at that place that you can’t help bur burst out crying, happy tears … or am I just winning on the oddball front (again) 💁🏻‍♀️🙈😂 Regardless, I felt those feels yesterday, as I often do here in the Highlands 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Yesterday should have looked like Christmas dinner preperation at The Nest, but with the cancellations in play - it got to look like this instead ⛰🌊😍 At this exact moment in time, there was not a breath of wind. Only birdsong. The stillness was all consuming. Loch Sunart came alive once again as the hills danced upon her glassy reflection … and even though the skies had just been grey, my soul was filled with colour 🙏🏻 How wondrous these little moments are 💜

The Wotherspoon’s have officially hung up our spoons for the last time at The Nest Bistro this year 🥄👩🏻‍🍳 As of yesterday, and with all of the new covid guidelines coming in to play - we decided to cancel further events this week in the hope of keeping folks safe and happy with such uncertainty in the air, regarding omicron. It wasn’t an easy decision as we were very much looking forward to going out with a bang with some of our local lads 🎉 but my god, every night has been a bang on our journey, so we can hold on to that at least 🙏🏻 These spoons happen to be quite precious to us ✨ as they belonged to my grandmother - and to be able to bring them to The Nest and cook our first meal for our first guests with spoons she’s filled many a hungry belly with over the years, truly was an honour ♥️ I feel I’ve touched base on her often throughout this time - and that is because she was the driving force for us wanting to take on this opportunity - as a homage for the incredible wee woman she was, and will forever continue to be in both our hearts. Her home in Lochaline was always our nest, and we hope we’ve been able to reflect the same feeling of warmth and hospitality that she gave us, at our wee nest for you. Och if she were here she’d be having a ball - sat in front of the heater with a wee glass of “plonk” 🍷 watching all of the comings and going’s and getting all of the blethers 🥰
So as we hang up these spoons - We’d just like to once again thank our friends, our guests, our team … a special man and maître d'hôtel extraordinaire that helped my mum at the beginning of this journey when I could not. We’d like to thank the locals of Lochaline, Morvern and the wider community for your support, feedback and positivity. The faces that we won’t forget and the stories/ reviews that we will now get to cherish of our time here forever and a day ✨ We are so grateful for having been granted the opportunity to operate out of the whitehouse and for all that the Nest has given us. Our hearts are full, as are our souls - and that’s because of all of you ✨ Wishing you a Merry, peaceful and bright Christmas when it comes 🎄🤍 Clay & Morv x

Usually when we say “the countdown is on”
It’s for something magic. Something exciting. Something we’re looking forward to ✨ Maybe it’s a birthday. A wedding. Or that holiday that we’ve been waiting all year to go on. For us, this countdown is a little different right now … and each night we find ourselves sat in this warm, comforting space that has given us so much - thinking we don’t want the clock to strike twelve, because we don’t want it to end ⏳But all good things must come to an end, for a time at least, until we find more good things to enjoy and explore 🙏🏻🥰
Tonight was Burger Night 🍔 and even though it was quiet, we had 2 lovely locals in who certainly made our night worthwhile with their blethers and energy (you know who you are) ♥️ Tomorrow, it’s our curry night 🍛 it is a limited menu but we will be offering our guests a deal with either
• Chicken Rogan Josh - melt in the mouth breast of chicken cooked in a sauce rich with clarified butter and aromatic with spices like cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom, deep red in color because of paprika 🥘
• Keralan Coconut Curry - melt in the mouth breast of chicken cooked in a creamy coconut based sauce with smoky flavours of cumin and fenugreek with the sweet undertones of cinnamon and cardamom 🥘
Either will be served with vegetable pakora w’ pakora sauce, chilli/garlic naan bread, rice and spiced onions 🌶
Dine in with us, or takeaway … either way we’d love to see you for one of our last nights at The Nest ♥️

When we started our little nest venture - it was on a whim, or as oor Morv likes to say “for the craic” 😅 I mean herself has had zero experience in hospitality, let alone chefing … but she is superwoman who can turn her hand to pretty much anything, after all - and The Nest is only another example of her greatness. We had nae clue what we were doing 🙈 but we had excitement, wonder, learning, growing and finding our feet as a mother daughter team in this new business and that in itself, has been a a truly magical and unforgettable experience. We had hopes, but no expectations. The whole of point of us being a pop up, was to test the water and had no clue if we would be a great success, or a bit of a belly flop but we were willing to take the risk regardless and give things our best shot. I read once “when you venture in to the unknown, you discover many treasures” and my god - we were never quite prepared for how much of a precious treasure our Nest would become ✨It is through tears and snotters that I type this - but we’d just like to let folks know that our pop up will be ending at the Whitehouse as of next weekend whilst we take a pause on things and reassess, throughout the quieter months. Over the course of our last week, we have a few things on for our guests and would love to have you join us - for the first time or another time, but hopefully not the last time for food, blethers, or maybe even to just wind down after a long day with a comforting glass of mulled wine, or one of our Christmas cocktails 🍹 Monday - we will be running a gourmet burger night 6-8pm 🍔 dine in/takeaway. Tuesday - we will be doing a curry night 🥘 dine in/takeaway. Wednesday - our doors will open for anyone who would like to come in for drinks/nibbles before or after the lochaline village hall Christmas markets 🎄 and Thursday/Friday our local Christmas party nights continue ✨which we still have some spaces left for if folks would like to book in. On that note it’s time to get back in to the kitchen 👩🏻‍🍳 as we continue prepping for a full house of festive nesters tonight 😍 so will leave you now with a sneak peek of some of the delights that are getting dished up ♥️

Each moment of the year has its own beauty. Each season has it’s own story, and in Lochaline it’s virtually impossible to fault any of that which we are blessed to be able to enjoy 🙏🏻 Spring brings us colour 💛 Mother Earth awakens. Flowers bloom 🌸 and so does a little hope It brings new life, and there’s nothing that makes my crazy animal lady heart more full, than seeing happy little lambs skipping all over the roads on a hurl through the Glen, or fields full of inquisitive little calves, whilst out on my wanders 🐑🐮 Summer brings warmth 🌞 to our skin and to our souls. The nights are longer. The stars are brighter 🌟 The beach feels like home. The water is warmer, the music gets louder and life, always feels a little brighter 🌊 Autumn brings change 🍂 and reminds us all too - that change is okay, in the most wonderful way. Even the trees know when it’s time to let something go, and make room for something new 🌲The leaves fly free in the wind, shimmering in gold. Everything shimmers. The air gets crisper. Fireworks fill the sky 🎇 and that soothing smell of chimney smoke begins. Then there’s winter - the month that has my heart ❄️🤍 even if I do have raynauds and the blood circulation of a co**se 🧟‍♀️😅 I mean it rains. It pours. The days get shorter and the nights get longer. But winter is comfort. Its waking up and feeling like a kid at Christmas when you open the curtains and see snow for the first time ☃️ It’s going for walks in the forest and feeling like you’ve been transported to narnia 🦁 It’s being cozy. It’s chats in front of an open fire 🔥 Its moon magic on a freezing night 🌝 🌌 It’s Good food. Good company. It’s frosty days and views so pretty they will literally take your breath away, a bit like this morning 😍Even though it’s not officially winter yet, the winter sunrises have begun 🌅 and this was truly spectacular ✨ Spectacular enough to not only get spotted stoating about outside the shop wearing the worst pyjamas known to mankind to get a pic (they’re my fav though) but skiting on my arse in them too 💁🏻‍♀️🙃 There’s a sunrise and sunset every day, and they are absolutely free. Don’t miss so many of them ♥️✨

✨ 01.12.2021 ✨

How are we typing this date? How is it really December 1st, 2021? I mean, did we not just blink on August 8th when we embarked on our Nest journey, and yet here we are! In the words of a wise old owl “time flies when you’re having fun” 🦉 and my goodness we’ve had fun ☺️ but wouldn’t it be amazing if we could hit the stop button sometimes 🛑 Maybe not stop completely, but just pause - to slow down. and really relish, embrace, enjoy, truly feel that fun, without it just passing us by ✨ Anyhoo, it is the 1st December today folks ❄️ and we are SO HAPPY to have been back in our wee Nest … cooking up a storm and feeling quite festive with more twinkly lights, wreaths, tinsel, baubles and candles than you could shake a stick at 🕯😍💫 and we’re nowhere near finished on the decorating front yet 🥰🎄 It was just another lovely night, with lovely guests with lovely stories - giving us all of the warm and fuzzies and reminding us of why we love this venture so much 🥰 It was also a night full of lovely treats ✨ treats being these beautiful scallops - fresh out of the sound of Mull today 🌊 thanks to two lovely divers, who happened to blow through our door last night a little cold and a little hungry. We weren’t open - but had a slow cooked beef, pork and pancetta ragu on the go … and it wasn’t until a few beers, a little bit of craic and a healthy serving of ragu later, that they were on their way🍝🍺 We are very fortunate to have had the wonderful always providing us with the freshest of seafood week in, week out - but on a quiet week with a limited menu - these ocean to plate beauties, were an unexpected delight ☺️ We really could write a book with our lovely nest stories 📚 and who knows, maybe one day we will … and that’s all thanks to you. Thanks to the lovely Lochaline locals. The yearly holiday makers, or air BnB newbie’s. To you who has sailed in 🛥 drove in 🚗 biked in 🏍 blow’d in 💨 To you who follows our Instagram. Our facebook. To the family and friends who have supported us, and the rest! So Here’s to December 1st ✨ and here’s to you folks ♥️ Wishing you all a month filled with love, happiness, and little miracles ❄️✨

We’ve been a little quiet here on the Nest Bistro page, because to be perfectly honest things have been just that … a little quiet. We’re missing cooking. We’re missing our guests, and we can’t wait to get back in to the kitchen over the month of December to share our wee nest with lots of faces again, old and new 👩🏻‍🍳🥘♥️ Yesterday was one of the first really beautiful wintry days of the year, here in Morvern ❄️
We awoke to a blanket of frost and snow, twinkling under a sky glowing with hues of pinks and the chirping of birds - in particular a very fat and very bonnie little Robin, keen to sing us a song 🎵 The sky soon turned into a sea of blue and the sun which glistened as it broke through the trees, had a dance off with the brightest moon 🌝🌞🌿❄️⛄️It was a beautiful yet poignant day for us, on the 1 year anniversary of the passing of a very precious little lady in our lives ✨ Almost a clone of the one she left us last year - peacefully, surrounded by love and in our arms. To be perfectly honest we’re sure the wee roaster had it planned up there. Pink is her favourite colour and all Robins are Betty, after all 💖 Even with time, it never gets any easier and if we could be granted one wish in this life, it would be for just one more minute with her 💔 Och she’d just love The Nest and would be having a ball, sat in the corner in front of the heater with a glass of “plonk” 🍷watching all of the comings and goings, and having all of the blethers. What a miss she truly is 💔✨
On another note - we know it’s “that day” again. You know, good old Monday … and the weather has been very different in comparison to the magic we just had 🌧 Dreich, “cats and dogs” as the old saying goes, but we just hope that even though it’s rained and even though it’s Monday - that it’s been beautiful for you in some way too 🙏🏻 Even though the darker nights are upon us and the days are far colder, making it easy for moods to dampen … we hope that you all have a wonderful week 🤍✨🤍✨🤍
