Piggy Pete's went Live 15th June 2024 - We often get asked why the name... and this guy is why... Martin (Bex Brother).

Today is 6 years to the day that we lost the most amazing brother, and all round pretty funny guy.

I will share the story of why Piggy Pete's Deli exists...Miss you Mart.

OUR JOURNEY BEGINS!

In 2024 we decided it was a good time for us to create what we have been dreaming of for about 3 years prior. A journey of fun, good food, memories and laughter, all which have helped us cope with some less than enjoyable times of our lives.

We have lost multiple loved ones, but the one that has made us move forward with our dream is Martin, a great friend to Pete and amazing big brother to Becky. We all miss him lots and it is only fitting that this journey begins with our memory of him.

We have always had a passion for food, loved cooking and trying new things. One day whilst sat at a family meal, Pete had second helpings... to which Martin yelled out suddenly "PETE'S HAVNG MORE FOOD!…PIGGY PETE, PIGGY PETE!!". Naturally this stayed as a joke with us and occasionally got brought up whenever 2nds were had by Pete.

Fast forward to 2020 and Martin, who started the name, passed away suddenly and we were all left with a huge hole in our hearts. As time passed and we learnt how to live with the loss, both laughter and tears were had around memories of Martin. He was also passionate about food and we believe he would have loved doing cured and smoked products with us, so we decided to create Piggy Pete's Deli in his memory. We wish he was still with us to experience the journey and miss him so much, but we will try to make him proud!

When we launched Piggy Pete’s Deli back in June 2024, we were just a self-taught, small-batch setup asking one big question: Can we actually compete with the big dogs? 🐶🥩

Turns out... absolutely!

Year 1:
🐟 Pastrami Smoked Salmon – Bagged a 2-Star Great Taste Award in under 12 months! With no salmon scoring higher than 2 stars that entire year, our small setup was standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the industry heavyweights.

Year 2:
🥩 Original Spice Biltong – Phenomenal news as biltong made it to the for the first time ever—and both us and the team at Biltong Emporium took home BRONZE!

Plus, our biltong earned a Finalist spot at the Industry Awards.
