πΏAnd just like thatβ¦ itβs come full circle.
12 years ago, I discovered Forest School while searching for outdoor playgroups for my own little wildling. π±
πͺ΅ I remember falling completely in love with the ethos β the freedom, the mud, the magic, the belief that children learn best when theyβre given space to explore, take risks, get messy and simply be.π
π³It truly changed our lives.
I trained in Forest School and set up an outdoor playgroup. I went from teaching in a classroom to facilitating learning outdoors, and eventually took the leap and left teaching to run Forest School full time.
Then my husband left chef-ing, trained in Forest School too, and joined me in the business. π
πͺ΅Over the years, weβve run playgroups, toddler groups and school sessions. Our wildlings have grown up alongside our Forest School, they've attended sessions throughout the years, and as as they've grown, increasingly helped out. As a business, weβve grown, changed and evolved; as well as our Family Sessions, Holiday Clubs and parties, we now specialise in SEMH, run our monthly Into the Woods with Zephyrβs sessions for bereaved families, are a registered Alternative Provision, and run a whole range of other wild and wonderful sessions. π³π₯π
πAnd then yesterday something rather special happenedβ¦
My eldest wildling β the very same wildling who started this whole adventure β came and worked her first full Saturday with us as part of her first Saturday job. β€οΈ
This is the child I took to those very first outdoor groups. πͺ΅π³π
The child I practised my newly learned Forest School skills onβ¦ and with! π
The child who grew up surrounded by mud, fire, trees, sticks, hammocks, bug hunting and countless Forest School adventures.
And now sheβs old enough to be on the other side of the campfire, helping us create those experiences for other children. π₯πΏ
What started 12 years ago as a mum looking for something wonderful for her own little wildling has grown into our familyβs work, our familyβs passion, and our family business.
And now that once little wildling is becoming part of it too. π
It really does feel like weβve come full circle. π±β‘οΈπ³
