Team member appreciation post!!
Neil, or Bruce as some of you call him, has been with us for many years and it's about time we let him know how much we appreciate him! What you might not know is he's our brother in law and also today is his birthday - but you'll find him behind the bar for a couple of hours as usual so Lucy can treat her sister, Jane, to a birthday outing as it's her birthday (Jane, that is) on Sat. FYI - Neil is off then so they can celebrate together 😅
He might not get your drink order right every time (who does?!), but he's super reliable, always flexible and will step in at short notice if we need a hand. You're a star Neil and this little business would be much harder without you around! Happy Birthday Neil 🎂🍻

Busy weekend at The Abdication!
Tonight we're pouring the Burton Bridge Brewery X Cloudwater Brew Co smooth bitter 🍻
Tomorrow we're serving the customers at Sherwood Art Week 's Secret Garden craft Fair 😎 plus the pub open at 4pm as usual
Sunday sees the long awaited return of the sunday session - hosted by Ben Mark Smith, new and familiar faces plus a spotlight set from - it should be a cracking afternoon 🎶
Hope to see lots of your lovely faces in Daybrook and Sherwood.... .... Monday we're having a lie down 😅

We're currently selling about twice as much bitter than we did a few years back, so this beer is aptly named! A collab between our friends at Burton Bridge Brewery and their friends at Cloudwater Brew Co, we're excited to be pouring it from Friday 5th June as part of the national launch. Just one week to go until the 2026 edition of the fabulous Sherwood Art Week starts. And you'll find us pouring beers, ciders, wine and lots of soft drinks at the Secret Garden Craft Fair, Saturday 6th June. From 11am-4pm, this wonderful craft fair brings you 65 makers & artists, food, drinks and live music all in the fabulous secret garden at the United Reform Church, Edwards Lane. And it's free to come along - see you there!

🍻 YEAR OF BEER WILD CARD #2 🍻
Pouring from 4pm Wed 27th May, Kipling Thornbridge Brewery's 5.2% South Pacific Pale Ale - buying one gets you a sticker on your Year of Beer Card!
Kipling was the first UK beer to use the exquisite Nelson Sauvin hop from New Zealand. Thornbridge brewed this as a SMASH (Single Malt and Single Hop) using the heritage Maris Otter as a base malt which really works to allow the complex flavour of this hop to really shine through. There is a grassy, grapefruit character on the nose, followed by passionfruit and mango. It finishes with a balanced and thirst-quenching bitterness.
We know it's a favourite for some of you guys, so don't dawdle 🍻

🍻 Celebrating one of the most iconic breweries in the UK Hook Norton Brewery We enjoyed their beers so much when we visited the brewery last summer, we've bought them to our little pub - for one weekend only 🍻
A full cask line up will be pouring from 4pm today. The Mild is back on, after the thirsty lot supped the first pin on Wednesday 😅 So if you're after trying it or fancy it for your Nottingham CAMRA Mild Trail sticker, don't dally!
We've a couple more to go on, so some Hook Norton beers should stay on the taps for the rest of the weekend, with an extra day to enjoy them. Open Bank Holiday Monday from 2pm, until......

Pouring from 4pm tomorrow, enjoy something classic in return for your May sticker. Present 3.8% is a Coffee Mild from Thornbridge Brewery "Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don’t plan it. Don’t wait for it. Just let it happen.” Wise words from Dale Cooper, and the inspiration behind the name of this Coffee Mild. It is beautifully balanced, combining rich coffee notes with the smooth, warming character of dark malts. Packed with flavour yet gently low in ABV, it’s the perfect little treat. 👌🍻

🎶🎸 Music pals! We're excited to bring back the Sunday afternoon music session for 2026. A firm favourite with some, it'll be the same relaxed few hours of acoustic music from local troubadours. The difference is we'll do it once a quarter - aiming to mark each season - and it'll be hosted by the wonderful Ben Mark Smith. Ben will invite a guest for a spotlight set, play some of his own songs and make room for everyone who wants to come along and play. Hope you'll be able to join us next month and give Ben a super welcome! 🍻
