❤️ A little update from Cookie’s Cakes NI ❤️
Back in January, I shared that I was stepping away from taking cake orders for the foreseeable future due to ongoing health issues.
At the time, I didn’t know what the months ahead would bring, and a part of me hoped that with some time away I might find myself able to return.
Unfortunately, I’m still undergoing medical investigation and I’m not yet in a position to know when, or if, I’ll be well enough to start taking orders again.
After speaking with the council today, and having now not traded for almost a year, Cookie’s Cakes NI will be removed from the food business register for the time being. If the day comes when my health allows me to return, I can register again — and I very much hope that perhaps one day I will. ❤️
For now, though, it feels right to officially close this chapter rather than leave the business sitting in limbo.
After 13 years in total in the cake business, this is a very emotional moment for me.
Cake making has been such a huge part of my life. I’ve spent countless hours baking, decorating, learning, creating and building businesses that I was incredibly proud of. I had plans for the future that I genuinely believed I would have many more years to fulfil, so I won’t pretend that reaching this point doesn’t make me incredibly sad.
But alongside that sadness is an enormous amount of gratitude. ❤️
I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to spend so many years doing something I genuinely loved. I’m grateful for every customer who trusted me with their special occasions and for every birthday, wedding, christening, baby shower and celebration that I was lucky enough to be a small part of.
I’m grateful for those who returned year after year, recommended me to family and friends, shared my work, sent lovely messages and supported my little business in so many different ways.
There is also something about the way this chapter ended that I’m particularly proud of.
The very last cake I made was a charity cake. ❤️
I didn’t know when I made it that it would turn out to be my last cake, but looking back now, I’m incredibly proud that the final cake of this chapter was made for a good cause. Of all the ways it could have ended, that feels like a particularly meaningful one.
And perhaps one day it won’t actually be my last cake. I really hope that might be the case.
So although today feels incredibly sad, it’s a sad feeling, but a very grateful one too.
I don’t want to look back over those 13 years only with sadness. I want to look back with pride and gratitude for what I achieved, for everything I created, for the memories I made and for all the wonderful people who supported me along the way.
My little Cookie’s Cakes sign will now be coming down from the front of the house. That feels rather emotional in itself, but it certainly won’t be going in the bin. ❤️
I’ll be keeping it safely tucked away with the hope that perhaps one day, if my health improves and life allows, I’ll be able to put it back up again.
For now, this is a chapter I need to close — but I’m closing it with a very grateful heart and a little bit of hope for what the future may bring.
So this isn’t necessarily goodbye forever.
It’s simply…
