We’ve been a bit quiet here recently and the only thing to blame is this busy thing called life! From wedding catering, trading at the Fringe Festival and other local music festivals, it’s been a busy summer. We had planned on hosting a September yard weekender this weekend but decided against it so we can catch a breath and a bit of downtime. Apologies to anyone expecting music, pints and scran this weekend.. you’ll have to wait a little longer!

Fear not though as in the background we’ve been cooking up plans for the next couple of events and they are shaping up nicely

We caught Dow & Honeyman playing at the Penny Black in Edinburgh recently and were pleased to tee them up for a set in the Borders after chatting in the pub

They’ve got great energy playing together, performing choice covers with unique delivery and their own original songs. This Edinburgh based acoustic duo will be kicking off our musical schedule for the weekend with their warm, folk driven sound with rich vocal harmonies and intricate guitar work 👌

Before we launched our yard weekender series, we put out an open call for musicians and Souped Up Fords were among those who answered.

We knew we had to get them booked as soon as they were free. They’ve got some class original music which we’ve been blasting on numerous occasions. Personal fav - half moon doctor… check the last slide for a preview… tune 🤘

We are absolutely buzzing to have them with us this Saturday at the yard.

Originated in Fife and based in Edinburgh, this 4-piece delivers a raw, high-voltage mix of gritty electric blues, rock, and folk-rock melodies. Influenced by legends like Rory Gallagher and Albert Collins, their live shows are wild, kinetic, and packed with soulful sax and ripping guitar riffs. Even the famed blues singer Monica Dupont said “Chuck [Berry] should hear this” after hearing their take on Nadine.

This weekend brings the inaugural ‘Sunday Dub Club’ session at the yard with the one and only Mighty Oak Sound System bringing some roots, reggae and dub to their home turf in the Borders. As we’ve spent many an hour dancing in front of this rig, we wanted to learn more about the story, essence and people behind this beautiful stack of sound, especially when we are practically neighbours!

So we asked founders Ben and Jofis some questions which they have kindly answered!

It’s going to be a fantastic day on Sunday with a modest half stack of the mighty oak rig bringing some deep bass weight to the old mill yard with roots, reggae and dub selections all day. Nice and chill, family and dog friendly atmosphere as usual but dancing most welcome!
