End of an era 💛
Our much loved vintage bus - all the way from America - was officially sold today and is off on a whole new adventure with its new owners. Typing that feels incredibly surreal.
Perhaps symbolically, the sale of / parting with the bus was NOTHING how we’d imagined.
I’d envisioned / prepped for 5 years’ of memories, tears, echoes of the past, hugs, shared laughter, the sound of its rumbly old 1981 engine fading into the distance and for us to be stood there waving Joe off into his new phase of life TOGETHER. After all; we’d fought, argued, laughed, cried, despaired, feared, embraced, caught Covid, got stuck in isolation, learnt new skills for life, brought up our puppy Duke who we loved SO very much, grew both as individuals and as a pair; and got pushed to our absolute limits through storms, snow and deep freezes. All in our faithful old bus.
But the tears, memories and cinematic departure never came. The buyers’ last-minute collection got delayed from 11am to 5pm. I had to leave to collect my old Landy from its MOT half an hour away. And just as I hit the road back- I got the call: they’d completed the sale and gone.
Into the night.
Just like that.
Waved off by Luke alone.
And just as I was sat on the roadside mentally filing it all away, a message pinged: “Are you still coming to your brow appointment?” 🤦♀️🤣 (thank you for being so patient). Of course, in the flurry, I’d completely forgotten.
And that was it.
I called Luke.
We congratulated / commemorated, and rounded off with ‘well.. guess I’ll see you at home then?’.
‘yeah… guess I’ll see you at home!’
And I went to my brows appointment. In muddy boots.
No grand send-off.
Just the sound of an old chapter quietly closing.
Even though today was an incredibly significant day that we’ll never forget, it simply didn’t play out how we’d ever imagined.
(It never does, does it? 😂)
When we were finally both home, we just sat quietly, letting it all settle.
“I can’t believe we did that… all of it… like… that whole chapter”
“…We didn’t even get to wave it off together”
“…and no Duke”
“I know…”
