A close friend asked something I can’t shake off:
“If Reform get into government… will we have to move abroad?”

Abroad. That word stuck with me. Because this is home. I was born here. My parents built their lives here. And yet, the fact leaving even becomes a question says everything.

All my life I’ve faced racism. Been called “paki.” Been told to “go back home” — in the only home I’ve ever known. You don’t accept it… but you get used to it.

Years ago, I told someone I was British. He replied:
“If a dog is born in a stable, it doesn’t make it a horse.”
To him, I’d never belong.

During Brexit, someone I’d known for years said:
“You don’t have a right to vote… we’ll decide.”
Not a joke. Just said, easily.

That’s what changed. Not that racism started — but it got louder. More comfortable. Things once whispered were said out loud.

And it’s not just policies that matter — it’s tone. What people feel allowed to say. What goes unchallenged. What becomes normal.

Because that’s what you live with daily — the comments, the looks, the feeling of having to explain yourself… until one day you think, “Life’s too short to feel like this in my own home.”

I’m not saying everyone thinks this way. But it doesn’t take everyone — just enough.

That’s why that question stayed with me. Not because I want to leave… but because I never want to feel like I have to.

This is my home. I can’t change my colour. I can’t erase my heritage. And I won’t apologise for either.

And if it ever gets to the point where people like me have to question that… something has already gone very wrong.

Zaman’s is hosting a celebration of Eid for the whole community. Newquay Town Council and Newquay BID are supporting Zaman's to bring 'Eid in the Park' to Newquay on Sunday May the 10th on the Killacourt.

Zaman's will be providing all of the food for the event so you know it will be delicious. Mo will also be doing cookery demonstrations.

Mo would like to invite as many businesses to take part as possible. Although other savoury food is not needed, it would be good to have someone selling ice creams, coffees, and perhaps milkshakes and slushies.
He would also love to hear from market stall type businesses, especially if they are selling local products. Some ideas floated were local honey or chillies but we are completely open to ideas if you would like to be involved and think what you have could be appropriate.
We would also like to hear from anyone who can offer an activity such as hair braiding, face painting, henna, bouncy castles or other inflatables, rides.

Mo would like the event to cost as little as possible so piches will be free but he would love it if prices can be kept low, and that if your business would like to give a donation towards the cost of the event it would be very welcome and all money raised beyond costs will be going to he Mayor's charity.
