Three hundred people left Caerleon for the First World War. Those who never came home are named on the cenotaph, and every year, Tim rides a hundred miles, lap after lap of the village raising money for The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
On Sunday 25th October, Tim takes on Tommy’s 100 Mile Challenge once again. Tim served for 24 years, as his grandfather and great-grandfather did before him.
“For me, it’s about keeping the memory of those who served alive and supporting those still facing the consequences of conflict,” he says. “It’s also a chance for the community to come together and reflect on the sacrifices made over generations.”
It’s never boring, he says. Not with the village cheering him on at every turn, and people travelling from far and wide just to be part of it. There's also plenty of entertainment with live music from local bands, face painting, and various World War II vehicles on display.
