🇬🇧 107 YEARS YOUNG! A TRUE WELSH LEGEND! 🐟🍟❤️

From everyone at Charlie’s 1922, we’d like to wish Owen Filer from Cwmbran a very Happy 107th Birthday! 🎂👏

Owen is believed to be the oldest man in Wales and proudly served his country during the Second World War with the Royal Welch Fusiliers and Military Police. 🇬🇧

This story is particularly close to our hearts.

Charlie’s 1922 was named in honour of our very own Grancha Charlie, himself a war veteran. ❤️

We know the importance of remembering and honouring the generations who served, sacrificed and helped shape the lives we enjoy today.

And we absolutely loved reading Owen’s secret to a long and happy life…

🚨 IMPORTANT CUSTOMER ANNOUNCEMENT – PRICE INCREASES 🚨

🐟🍟 Charlie’s 1922 – A Message to Our Valued Customers ❤️

We want to be completely open and honest with all our customers.

Unfortunately, due to the continued rise in costs across the board, we have been left with no choice but to introduce an increase to our menu prices.

⛽ Rising fuel and transport costs are pushing up the price of almost everything we buy.

🥔 Drought conditions and reduced potato yields have driven up the cost of one of our most important ingredients.

🐟 Fish, cooking oils, packaging and other supplies have all seen substantial increases, making it increasingly difficult to absorb these costs.

❤️ This is NOT something we want to do.

We fully appreciate that everyone is feeling the squeeze, and we have worked incredibly hard to keep our prices as low as possible for as long as possible.

But the reality is simple: for Charlie’s 1922 to survive, we have to make these changes. Without them, we risk having to close our doors.

🎟️ OUR LOYALTY VOUCHER SCHEME IS HERE TO STAY!

We are proud to reward our loyal customers, and last month alone we gave away over £1,000 in customer discounts! 🎉

Our voucher scheme will continue, although the spending threshold required to earn a voucher has had to increase in line with our new menu prices.

💷 CASH IS STILL OUR PREFERRED METHOD OF PAYMENT.

Paying by cash helps us reduce card processing fees and keep more money in the business, allowing us to continue offering the best possible value.

We will continue to work tirelessly to keep costs down wherever possible, maintain our portion sizes, serve quality fish and chips and provide the friendly service you expect from Charlie’s 1922.

❤️🤍💚 OWAIN GLYNDŴR DAY — 16 MEDI / 16 SEPTEMBER 💚🤍❤️

Today, Charlie’s 1922 proudly celebrates Owain Glyndŵr Day and remembers one of the most important figures in Welsh history. 🐉⚔️🏰

👑 BUT WHO WAS OWAIN GLYNDŴR?

Born around 1359, Owain Glyndŵr was a Welsh nobleman, soldier and leader who became the figurehead of a major Welsh uprising against the rule of King Henry IV of England.

⚔️ On 16 September 1400, Glyndŵr was proclaimed Prince of Wales by his supporters, marking the beginning of a rebellion that would continue for more than a decade.

What began as a dispute developed into a much wider struggle for Welsh independence and self-government. 🐉

At the height of the uprising, Glyndŵr controlled large areas of Wales and established a Welsh Parliament at Machynlleth in 1404. 🏰

His ambitions went beyond the battlefield. Glyndŵr envisaged a Wales with its own government and institutions, and plans were set out for Welsh universities and an independent Welsh church.

⚔️🏹 Over the following years, English forces gradually regained control. Glyndŵr was never captured, however, and his final fate remains uncertain. He disappeared from the historical record, helping turn him into one of the great legendary figures of Welsh history.

More than 600 years later, his name and his red-and-gold banner remain powerful symbols of Welsh history and identity.

Did you know Britain’s potato growers have had a particularly challenging season? 🥔🇬🇧

Long spells of hot, dry weather and very little rainfall have made growing conditions difficult this year ☀️🌱 — so spare a thought for the humble potato that eventually becomes one of Britain’s favourite foods… THE CHIP! 🍟😂
