Update from Barnes about our herbal ley planted directly after our garlic crop. A request/question… for anyone who can help us improve the herbal ley establishment in our organic system. Our garlic is in a five year rotation so will be back in this field in 2031. In the meantime we need to improve soil health through cover crops and grazing our livestock through this field.

🧄 Thursday 24th September - Willow Foraging Basket Workshop 🧄 Master the traditional craft of weaving a foraging frame basket in this hands-on workshop. Under expert guidance, you'll learn essential weaving techniques whilst creating a functional basket perfect for gathering wild herbs and foraged goods. The workshop will run from 10am - 4pm in the woodland at The Garlic Farm. £115 pp.

🧄 Saturday 26th September - Get Involved at The Garlic Lover's Garden 🧄 Join our community day at our organic market garden. Sow seeds, dig beds, feed the worms and more. Participants will receive 20% off in our restaurant on the day. From 10am - 1pm.

It's our B Corp anniversary today and we’ve been reflecting on the progress we’ve made since we began measuring our impact in 2019.

A few key learnings...

🧄Since launching the Garlic Lovers’ Garden in March, we have welcomed more than 400 people through educational visits, volunteering opportunities and community events.

🧄We have produced more than 500kg of organic produce for our restaurant and converted nearly one tonne of raw food waste into nutrient- and microbe-rich compost for our soils.

🧄This year, our solar panels generated 140,730 kWh of renewable electricity, up from 106,621 kWh last year.

🧄This year, 6.8% of our sales came from organic products - another important step towards our long-term organic transition.

Measuring our impact gives us the evidence to celebrate our successes, recognise our challenges and keep asking how we can do better for people, the planet and our community.

Thanks to all of our community, customers and partners for their support on this journey.

Spotted at our WETsystem 👀

We were excited to hear news of a Golden-ringed Dragonfly on our organic farmland, at the shallow pools of our waste water treatment system. This distinctive black and yellow insect breeds in acidic streams and rivers with the larvae spending as long as 5 years in the water. It is the UK's longest dragonfly and quite the predator (it even eats other dragonflies).
