We’ve had quite a few new followers and seen a lot of brand new faces through the door recently so we thought we’d give you the lowdown on things at 𝕲𝖑𝖆𝖟𝖊𝖉 🏬
Glazed was started in total blind faith back in 2018 after appreciating other plant-based donut shops abroad and wanting to bring that concept home with me 🍩
Glazed started in Durham, making doughnuts for wholesale from a spare cafe kitchen. It gradually turned into a market business in Newcastle - most notably at Quayside Market - before evolving into the bricks & mortar shop we’re proud to call home today.
Having been asked if we had a shop I don’t know how many times it felt like the demand was there for it. Having made no money (😂) I thought I’d take out a loan and give it a shot 🤷♂️
Coast Road is where we still reside today, and have done for 6.5 years now - despite opening the shop just 2 months before lockdown hit 🙃
It’s all in the details (to us) 🎨
Everything we make is handcrafted in small batches in the kitchen at our Coast Road shop. When you visit us, you’re buying directly from the people who made your treats. We care just as much about the people who support our small business as we do about what goes into our products. We think that should be a given 👨🏼🍳👩🏻🍳
Our approach is inspired by the food culture of mainland Europe, where organic, seasonal produce is simply the norm. We bring that philosophy to the bakes we make by sourcing the best organic ingredients we can, alongside produce from regenerative farms and small-batch producers who share our values.
Great ingredients come from people who genuinely care, and we think that makes all the difference in our bakes 👨🌾🌾
We serve good coffee ☕️ 🤝 🍩
We’ve always served speciality coffee, our coffee just took a step up when we started stocking Dark Arts Coffee 🎭
I love the idea of supporting local roasters but when everyone was using the same ones, we wanted to bring something different to the table
We could be wrong ( feel free to shoot us down Dark Arts Coffee ) but we may well have been the first place (if not definitely one of) to bring Dark Arts on espresso to the Toon, back in 2022 🌟
