We’ve been busy filling the freezer ready for the weekend - and every single product is 100% gluten free.

Now all we need is for the North East weather to do its bit 🤞😂

This isn’t our usual kind of post but please bear with us….

I know through conversations with so many customers, that you are as concerned as us about the amount of independent cafes, restaurants and pubs that are closing on a weekly basis - in fact the UK is losing around 4 hospitality businesses EVERY DAY. That’s a really scary figure 🙁.

Massive rises in food costs, business rates, national insurance, wages and energy costs have squeezed our industry to the point of collapse.

BUT THERE IS HOPE! 😇

Tom Kerridge and UK Hospitality have launched a campaign called “VATS THE PROBLEM” to attempt to get the UK government to reduce the 20% rate of VAT for the hospitality industry.

Ireland ran a very similar campaign and the VAT rate for hospitality has been reduced to 9% 👏🏻 🇮🇪

The UK 20% VAT rate for hospitality is one of the highest in Europe. In France, Spain and Italy it’s 10% and in Germany it’s 7%. Their governments recognise the low margins the industry operates on and that hospitality businesses have far fewer opportunities to reclaim VAT than many other industries.

On the UK front, all major opposition parties and a high number of Labour MPs are ALL calling for this VAT reduction - so with a bit of extra pressure from the public this could happen 🙏🏼🙏🏼

There she is, a beacon of Gluten Free Heaven! 😇.

We launched our frozen gluten free range at the end of last year and you’ve loved it 🥰.

So we’ve take the next step and given it a permanent home in the front of the cafe.

We bake everything on site (I say “we” I meant the royal “we”, ok I just mean Gez 😂). We then freeze it immediately to lock the freshness in - all ready for you to pick up and take home.

As well as the popular favourites, we’ve got some new products! Some long awaiting amazing gluten free croissants and 2 types of gluten free focaccia - sea salt & olive oil and sun dried tomato & olive.

You’ll notice a gap at the bottom of the freezer - don’t worry, by 1pm tomorrow, that will be filled with our best selling gluten free seeded buckwheat bread loaf (work in progress as we speak! 😂).

So this bank holiday, why not combine an al fresco brunch in the sunshine with picking up the best gluten free baked goods in town!

Lots going on for us this week at One Kitchen&Social 😁

Our lovely baristas Amy & Esme finish university this week! They have been working so hard 📚(as well as holding down part time jobs ☕️). So they’ll be plenty of celebrating coming for them!! 🎉🥂

Big step for our very popular Gluten Free.ze range. We are buying a customer display freezer for the front of house so you can have a good browse of all our fabulous gluten free take home products 🧁🍞🥐🥧

New drinks ideas! We like to keep things interesting so we change our drinks specials regularly. Any ideas? You always come up with good ones so give us some inspo! 🧋

The forecast looks great for the bank holiday weekend! 😎🤞. So our pavement cafe will be in high demand! It’s such a great sun trap so prefect for Al fresco brunch. Is it just me thinking of Spritzers?…..🍹

Another brilliant private hire on Saturday night 💛

Claire celebrated her 50th with a completely personalised night (who thinks her favourite colour is red? 😂)

She designed her own themed food menu inspired by childhood takeaway favourites, created a personalised cocktail menu full of in-jokes, created her own playlist, brought the most amazing cake and even finished the night with a quiz.

And we need to talk about the cocktail sticks with her face on them - this is the sort of detail we love to see! 😂

This is exactly what we love about private hires here - people really making the space their own. Whether it’s playlists, quizzes, games, decorations, personalised cocktails or themed food, we love seeing everyone bring their own personality into the night. Safe to say Claire absolutely nailed the brief 😂.

A proper feel-good night from start to finish 🥰

On Friday night we had the pleasure of hosting local, family-run film company - they were celebrating the fantastic success of their very Geordie, very working class comedy-drama short film ‘Gan Canny’.

Filmed in North Tyneside the film follows two siblings stealing their Nana’s hearse and taking her for one last spin! If you live in Whitley Bay, Shiremoor or Wallsend you’ll recognise some familiar sights 😁

The team were celebrating a fantastic win at the Royal Television Society Awards and a successful festival run.

The trailer looks brilliant so please give them a follow - It’s so great to see a small local, family run company with such an important foundation, doing so well nationally.

The cast and crew enjoyed homemade pizzas and even renamed our cocktail menu with characters and jokes from the film. We were even given ‘Gan Canny’ tote bags, which we are wearing with pride 😁.

This is exactly the type of night our space was made for - small, intimate parties with big things to celebrate 🥂🎉
