Cast in the grand tradition of great British rock bands, and fuelled by a love of American blues, funk and soul, Little Barrie’s sixth studio album is the first released solely under the band’s own name since the death of drummer Virgil Howe in September 2017. The LP follows more than two decades of activity that have established the band as a key force in UK psychedelic rock and soul. Following Howe’s passing, Cadogan and founding bassist Lewis Wharton placed the future of the band on hold. After initial plans to resume playing were disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the pair began collaborating with long-time friend Malcolm Catto (The Heliocentrics). This partnership resulted in two albums, Quatermass Seven (2020) and Electric War, released on Easy Eye Sound in April 2025. For Gravity Freeze, the hooks are sharper, the grooves are deeper, and the atmospherics thicker, building on the band’s previous, highly-acclaimed work.

Liverpool-born Edgar Jones made his mark in the early ’90s as the leader of the highly regarded ’60s revivalists The Stairs, then transitioned into a sideman with artists such as Paul Weller and St Etienne. He also launched a solo career under various names and group settings that swerved from reverb-heavy garage rock and swaggering blues-rock to off-kilter ’60s-isnspired pop and even swinging jazz. No matter the sound or name of the group, Jones could be counted on to deliver breezy pop music, anchored by his languorous vocals and skilful musicianship....

Some things are just meant to be. Alicia Best (US) and Robert Jackson (UK) met while busking on the cobbled streets of Ireland and discovered both a musical and personal harmony that was serendipitous. In the decade since forming A Different Thread, Best and Jackson have taken their act on the road, touring over a dozen countries, supporting artists such as Milk Carton Kids and Jody Stephens (Big Star), and garnering critical praise from the likes of Folk Radio UK, which hailed the duo as “warm, deep songwriters that have drank from the well of 20th century tradition.”

Their sound is transcontinental, blending Jackson’s British folk rock background with Best’s North Carolina-bred alt-country melodies. Informed by their life experiences (navigating visas, vanlife, love across oceans) and liberal commentary on both environmental and social justice topics. While inspired by artists like Gillian Welch, The Avett Brothers, and John Prine, A Different Thread maintain a distinct sound that is all their own.

Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra are a Newcastle-based band renowned for their “musical gumbo,” a high-energy blend of Western swing, rockabilly, country, and blues. Portland, Oregon-based singer-songwriter, Laura Veirs, blends the poetic sensibilities of folk with the rough edges of indie rock. Her career has seen her collaborate with luminaries such as kd lang, Neko Case, Sufjan Stevens, Jim James, The Decemberists, Bill Frisell and many more. 2026 sees Laura return with her new album, Temple Songs— her first in four years and the first she has written, recorded, arranged, produced and performed entirely on her own. It captures a songwriter in peak form. The album is intimate, dreamy, brave and quietly defiant, built around Veirs’ intricate fingerstyle nylon-string guitar, vulnerable vocals and bold electric guitar embellishments. The new songs lend themselves perfectly to being performed live in a stripped-back form, with Laura accompanied only by Karl Blau on electric guitar.
