Five years ago today, we took delivery of our ice cream trike, and The Jesmond Ice Cream Company was born…

We never planned to start up a business. We had no experience in the world of food or hospitality. And we always said that we would never work together.

And yet, it turns out to have been one of the best decisions we have ever made…

Having spent twenty eight years as secondary school teachers and leaders, and living life at break neck speed, it came as no surprise that we couldn’t simply do nothing in retirement. We needed a project.

A friend had a company that made the trikes and sowed the seed of an idea….No doubt a lot of people thought we were mad, especially launching a new ice cream business in the Autumn…On some days, when we find ourselves trying to sell ice cream when the weather is far from ice cream friendly, we would have to agree with them 😂

From our very first event, however, at Newcastle University Freshers’ Fair back in 2021, we discovered that the trike allowed us to meet new people, bring a smile to people’s faces and go places that we would otherwise never go.

We had missed being ‘part of something’ having worked in schools for so long. The trike has given us the opportunity to engage with our community in all sorts of ways, with schools, churches, charities, local allotments and theatre groups. We love being able to add something ‘extra’ to all sorts of events, especially when we can use the trike to raise a bit a cash for causes close to our hearts 🥰

We have found a new, genuinely supportive ‘work family’ with some amazing wedding suppliers and wedding planners, and are always so honoured to be chosen to be a part of a couple’s big day.

We also discovered that working together as a family is actually rather lovely 😊

It is fair to say that this has been a particularly difficult year for us on a health front, but the trike and all it brings to our lives has never failed to lift our spirits and bring a smile to our faces, as well as those we are serving.

We owe it a lot.

What a pleasure it was to be a part of Yasmeen and Rich’s wedding celebration at the stunning .

Their day started with a ceremony at beautiful Jesmond Dene House and ended with the most elegant party at Tyne Bank, two of our favourite venues wrapped up in one amazing wedding day ❤️
Both Yasmeen and Rich exuded warmth and hospitality and we were honoured to be a part of their special day.

We are delighted to be there to support this charity so close to our hearts, and will be donating 100% of all profits of ice cream sold 😊

Join us tomorrow from 1pm–4pm as we open our beautiful garden to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme North East-Durham Northumberland Teesside Tyne Wear 🌿🧡

Take the opportunity to wander through our stunning garden, enjoy the colourful planting and soak up the peaceful surroundings while supporting our centre.

And that's not all.... we'll also have delicious ice cream available from the wonderful The Jesmond Ice Cream Company to keep you cool! 🍦

What a privilege it was to take part Coastal Crawl for the third year running.

We know from personal experience how invaluable this charity is to anyone affected by cancer, and are so pleased we can use our ice cream trike to support it.

The support they offer is personal, kind, practical and available to anyone and everyone affected by cancer on a walk in basis… and the Centre itself is a real haven just steps away from The Freeman Hospital.

To say ice cream was a hit is an understatement - turns out it was the very thing to give walkers a boost half way through the walk 😊

This Saturday, is opening their stunning garden to the public and we’ll be there with the trike, selling ice cream and giving 100% of profits to the charity, which is very close to our hearts 💕 Definitely worth popping along if you can. (More details can be found on )
