🚀🎲 One year of RPG – and what a year it has been. 🎲🚀
A year ago, on 30th August 2025, I unlocked the door to RPG – Rocket Propelled Games for the very first time.
Starting RPG wasn’t just about opening a board game café. It came after making one of the hardest decisions of my life — leaving a job and an environment that had become incredibly difficult for me.
Walking away from something I had known for so many years was terrifying. There was uncertainty, fear and a lot of doubt about whether I was doing the right thing.
But sometimes you reach a point where staying where you are is harder than taking the risk of starting again.
And that’s when RPG began.
What makes this journey even more special is that I haven’t done it alone.
I’ve had my son Finn beside me every step of the way. ❤️ as well as the support from my husband Dan and daughter Tilly. It takes an army to build an empire.
We’ve learned, laughed, stressed, argued, celebrated, made mistakes and figured things out together. We’ve probably said “what are we doing?!” more times than either of us would like to admit! 😂
But watching something that started as an idea become a real place, and knowing we’ve built it together, is something I will always be incredibly proud of.
Being autistic has also made this journey its own kind of challenge. Running a business, dealing with change, uncertainty, people and all the things you simply cannot plan for has pushed me far outside my comfort zone.
There have been days when it has felt completely overwhelming.
But there have also been moments where I’ve realised that some of the things I once saw as difficulties are actually part of what makes RPG special.
Our desire to create somewhere welcoming, accepting and comfortable for different kinds of people comes from wanting RPG to be a place where nobody has to pretend to be someone they aren’t.
And that has become one of the things I’m most proud of.
Over the last year we’ve watched people make friends, families discover new games, children find new interests, gamers find their people and complete strangers sit around a table and become part of a community.
We’ve hosted tournaments, quizzes, clubs, D&D adventures, tournaments, parties and so many wonderful events.
But honestly, it’s the little moments that mean the most.
The regular who walks through the door that takes the time to stand and have a chat, and you know exactly what game they’re going to choose.
The children excitedly showing you something new that they have added to their collection.
The people who come in for a coffee and chat.
The friendships that have grown around our tables.
And the people who have supported us, especially when things haven’t been easy.
To everyone who has visited RPG, supported us, shared our posts, recommended us, bought something, played a game, joined an event, left a review or simply walked through our doors…

A year ago, I was standing behind a newly opened café wondering if I had made the biggest mistake of my life.
Today, I look around and think…
Maybe taking that leap was exactly what I needed. ❤️
So here’s to one year of RPG.
To the difficult decisions.
To the scary beginnings.
To Finn.
To family.
To the lessons.
To the mistakes.
To the laughter.
To the people.
To the community we’ve built.
And to whatever comes next.
