I can’t believe I am about to post this…It feels so unreal and in some ways I don’t want to post this and make it real. Yesterday we received a letter from our landlord’s solicitor with orders to vacate the premises, with 5 days to close the business and leave.
Long Story short, we were due to sign a renewed lease but unfortunately it differed from the principles we had agreed a few months back, and the negotiations fell apart suddenly. Obviously this is so unexpected and we have spent the last 24hours processing this as a team. We have loved being part of your lives, being there when you all needed a little pick up. Sharing with each other our stories and plans for the day. We are so proud of our team and our community who all pulled together and helped us survive Covid lockdowns and uncertain footfall. The last year and half has been massively challenging from a personal, family & business perspective but we pulled through it as a team with the support of our amazing customers.
3 years ago, with a 1 year old baby in tow, NuMee was born. In those 3 years, with the support of the Most Amazing Team (I honestly do not know where I would be without them), & wonderful customers, we have topped the charts on TripAdvisor for several categories, received a Travellers Choice Award in record time, and brought the community together with Supper Clubs chef’d by members of our own communities. As we begin to close the curtains on NuMee Wash Common (now with a 2nd baby in tow) I can’t express just how proud (and very emotional) I am of everything we have achieved together. Thank you all so much.
Unfortunately 5 days to vacate does not allow us time to plan and gracefully close the business. We are in emergency mode trying to vacate on time. As you know, we always strive to minimise waste, and we will be offering discounts on our remaining days (Sat, Mon & Tue) to run down any stock we can. So, please pop in for a few final treats and maybe even shed a tear with us over a goodbye coffee.
We love you all, and have loved our time in Wash Common. We can only hope that more independents with a passion for good food & good coffee continue to pop up in Newbury ❤️
