🎉 What an amazing start to our 1st Birthday celebrations! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who has already popped in to celebrate with us today. Seeing so many familiar faces (and plenty of new ones too!) has made our day so special. ❤️

Running a small independent café certainly has its challenges, so days like today remind us exactly why we opened The Nest. Your support, kind words and smiling faces mean more than you’ll ever know.

Tomorrow we have our birthday celebrations. The 12.30 sitting for cream teas is fully booked but we have some space left at the other times. Please book by tonight to secure your space.

As we approach a year since I opened the doors to The Nest, I’ve been thinking a lot about the last 12 months.

I’m not going to pretend it’s been easy. Running a café and small business in the current economic climate is really hard. There have definitely been times when I’ve wondered whether I’m doing the right thing, whether we’re doing enough and how we keep everything going.

But then I read reviews like these.

Or someone stops me in The Nest and tells me how much they love coming here. Someone tells me their children always ask to come back, that they’ve made friends through one of our groups, that they love being able to walk around the nature reserve and then come in for coffee and cake, or simply that they’re glad The Nest is here.

Those little conversations probably mean far more to me than people realise.

When I took on The Nest, I never wanted it to be just a café. I wanted to create somewhere welcoming. Somewhere you could come on your own or with friends, bring the children or the dog, join a group, meet new people, browse things made by local people, have something to eat or just sit with a coffee.

We’re still learning. There are things I want to improve and lots more I want to do. But reviews like these remind me that we must be doing something right. 💜

And this is where I need your help.

🧶 What to expect

This is a relaxed, friendly course where everyone can work at their own pace.

Each week there will be demonstrations, tips and plenty of one-to-one support, allowing you to progress according to your own experience and confidence.

✨ Beginners will learn the basic crochet stitches and techniques needed to create a mandala.

🧶 More experienced crocheters can move straight on to creating their mandala, with guidance on reading patterns, choosing colours, improving tension and learning new techniques along the way.

Over the five weeks we’ll cover:

* Getting started and choosing colours
* Working in the round and building your mandala
* Adding decorative details and texture
* Finishing and blocking your work
* Mounting your finished mandala onto a hoop ready to display

The course is inspired by the beautiful mandala designs of Kim Haakt, and you’ll leave with the confidence to continue creating your own projects at home.

Join us at The Nest for a relaxing 5-week evening crochet course and create your very own beautiful crochet mandala!

Over the five weeks, you’ll learn how to crochet a beautiful mandala and mount your finished piece onto a hoop, ready to display at home.

Some knowledge of basic crochet skills will be helpful for creating the mandala, but complete beginners are very welcome too! If you’ve always wanted to learn to crochet, you can come along and learn the basics with friendly support and guidance.
