Thank you to everybody who donated plants and / or cash to our appeal, including Whitefield Youth Association who generously donated today. This means that we should now be able to plant up all the displays this summer.

Like many voluntary community groups, Nelson in Bloom have been struggling with funding / fundraising throughout the pandemic. This year we are asking residents to help us by donating plants to let us continue to brighten up our town centre. Nelson Town Council have already done a great job in planting out barrier baskets on roadsides and hanging baskets outside some shops but we at Nelson in Bloom have 5 three tier planters, 17 barrier baskets and 14 hanging baskets to fill ourselves - and we need your help. If you are able to donate some bedding plants to us - we will be massively grateful.

Due to the lack of availability of plants this year we have just focused on the barrier baskets and the 3 tier planters in the town centre which thankfully are now all planted up.
We have, just this week, managed to buy some extra plants so we can plant up the troughs at the old war memorial site on Sagar Street.
Please come along and help. Meet 1pm on Sunday 9th August at the old war memorial.

Huge thanks to Wendy Clarets Miller, Liz Lovett, Sadia Bashir, David Foat and Russell Tennant who came and planted up a storm today. Just a shame that some scrotes had decided to completely clear out one of the 4 tier planters, which we planted up a couple of weeks ago, of all the plants we had in it. That was about £50's worth of plants which means we will have to go out and try and find some more now.

Pleased to say that all of our ordered plants have now arrived and so we will be having another planting session this coming Sunday (19th July). Meet 1pm at the old fountain between Costa and the Post Office. In order to maintain social distancing, no more than two people will be working in any one area at a time. Please join us and bring along a face covering if you can.

Most (but still not all) of our ordered plants have now arrived. We had been hoping to plant them out this weekend but given the weather warnings for high winds, we don't want to risk volunteers' safety. With a forecast improvement in the weather next week we will try and schedule in some evening planting sessions. Watch this space.
